I saw one of these at the grocery store the other day. Guy was clearly dating this chick who owned the dog but he was in charge of holding the leash. I felt bad for the poor dude you could tell he was embarrassed because everyone was staring at him but he didn't have the balls to stand up to his GF

It depends on how crowded the place is. Someone throwing a frisbee or a ball at a playground or the lakefront is perfectly fine, as long as their dog obeys and doesn't bother others.

Not me. I wish every dog owner would not use a leash. But then again, I'm the kind of guy that wouldn't mind seeing a few yippie dogs scrapping and finding out their bark is much worse than their bite. I would go to the dog park with a 6 pack and portable recliner and watch the fights all day. But again, the yippie dogs. No professionals allowed, just amateur's.

I don't care how well trained your dog is, if its in the open in public, it should be on a leash. People who think "my dog is smarter and better behaved so he doesn't need a leash" are idiots and assholes, IMO. I love dogs, and have two of my own, but if I'm taking them somewhere, they will be on a leash no matter what, because I understand that no matter how well trained or well behaved they are, sometimes things happen. To inconvenience someone else because my pet prefers not to be on a leash is inconsiderate, and stupid. But most people are inconsiderate assholes.

That is the big difference. Mine doesn't "listen" to me, she OBEYS me. At all times. Every dog I have had does so and is trained as such.
During field trials they are under intense pressure with a ton of distractions happening at a much higher pace than walking down the sidewalk and leashes are not allowed.
If I can train them to an FC and AFC standard then I can walk them through any neighborhood park off leash.
I understand most people don't get their dogs disciplined enough to handle that btu many do.

If you have a well behaved dog and the establishment is pet friendly...I dont see the issue

This, my 2 chocolates always have theirs on when we go walk. They stay by my side, if they do look like they are wanting to run I beep them and they immediately come back.

I posted last year about some dude at a public park (with a lease law) had his off running around.
I'm walking mine on a leash and the dude's dog runs on a beeline from 100 yards right at my dog, mine is little and out weighed by 40-50 lbs. I couldn't tell if he was attacking or wanting to play.
Either way as he got in range I punted his arse, right under the chin so hard it spun me in a circle. The owner wanted to fight and said I should have just picked my dog up I cussed him and told him about the leash law and to F off.

If you have to “walk” your dog, you shouldn’t be a dog owner. If you don’t have the space for your dog to be a dog on it’s own, then you shouldn’t have one.
