Did this start once summer vacation hit or has this always been the case?

Live to work, or work to live. I'll choose work to live. If you don't like it, go frick yourself.

If you aren’t their boss, why do you care?
If you are their boss, consider what accommodations you two can agree upon do get their work finished.
Or I guess you can just complain on an anonymous message board.

Kids are more important than sitting in your assigned seat until 5 while you post on TD. Not working.

Doesn't look like this thread is going the way you hoped. But I will say, if it is a chronic issue, then yeah, those people suck. But people have shite that happens occasionally outside their control with kids. They also have things happen outside their control with other things that causes them to miss work, but I don't see you starting threads about those people...

There are a lot of those people. My day would be better if I didn't have to manage people's personal lives

Ahh you're looking in the mirror.
Just because no one wants to frick you and have kids, doesn't excuse you from being a shithead.
Be a team player.

Meh. My kid doesn’t effect my work obligations 99% of the time but when that 1% of the time comes around I am choosing my son 100/100 times. If that’s a problem then fire me, I don’t care.

The worst boss I ever had was a guy who did not have kids and did not understand.

Subtle “I’m shooting blanks” brag…
Or
Subtle “never met the right girl” brag
Or
Subtle “my boyfriend can’t seem to get my anus pregnant no matter what twitter says” brag

I'm extremely grateful to work for someone who has kids too and knows the daily stress of juggling all the events, school closures, sick days, summer day camps schedules etc.. . We have each others back and make things work.

if the work needed to be done is done and done well, i dgaf when they leave to get their kids. if they slack arse up to that point, well junior just gonna have to wait in the pick up line a little longer today.

i'm incredibly empathetic to taking care of the home if you can still do your job efficiently. Others just shouldn't be left holding the bag.
one thing that i've noticed that's driving me nuts is in the zoom workplace, they'll have their kid in the room with them and turn the camera on.
i had a meeting with a dude and a customer that started with him saying, "sorry my wife is out of town and i have a kid at home" and then talked to his 2 year old playing on the ipad the entire meeting (which he was leading.) he never muted or turned his camera off once and was entirely distracting and unprofessional for two hours.
i'm sure he thought it was cute having his kid on there but as a father, keep that shite on mute.

Anyone with a functioning brain knows what/who he is talking about.
I've had coworkers in the past that, exactly like the OP is describing, use their kid as an excuse. Not a "my kid is sick, I need to pick him up ill be back online in an hour, but constantly act like they're the only parent in the world and that entitles them to work less than everyone else.
You knew what the job was when you signed up, don't take it if you can't compete the work in the agreed upon manner because of your kid.
No better than smokers who take 2 hours off a day to fuel their disgusting habit, both totally unacceptable.

Punk arse bitch kids don’t even ride busses anymore look at the god forsaken pickup line at the dang schools now it’s insane.

You're getting killed in here but you aren't wrong at all. People abuse the hell out of using their kids as an excuse to not do whatever. I've had people brag to me about not going to let's say a party and using the kids as an easy excuse. Freaking lame

Well, if your family is more important than completing your work obligations you won't have a job or a family to provide for because you spouse will leave your broke arse.
