This.

I'm reminded about a lyric from "Voices" by Chris Young:
"Son work that job, but don't work your life away."

If someone being off affects your job that means you are not adequately staffed and that is your bosses fault.

Very negative way to take what I said
How should I take it? You are fixated on contractual obligations and the idea that the reason for time off doesn't matter at all.

Maybe, but they are awarded the same flexibility when it comes to their families.

I think Jones taking off at 2 to help put some Hooter's waitress through school is legitimate as well.

Yep

Someone takes PTO? Great, IDC. They earned that. I'll take PTO whenever I want to also.

It's weird to me that people glorify sitting at a desk for 40hrs a week while the average office working only actually works for 3 hours a day.

If you're on a team in a call center or some other front line teams where part of your job is to be at the beck-and-call of customers or employees, then fine. Different scenario, and your cutting out very obviously hurts coworkers. But most things that come across a professional's desk can wait and things can be done in a reasonable time frame.

Generally unless you are a Neurosurgeon or maybe a handful of other professions whatever you are doing for a living is of zero importance to the world. People usually come to realize this when they are old, and regret the time they sent in a office instead of with friends and family.

IDGAF that you had to leave at 2 to pick up your child at daycare. Finish your damn work.

Totally agree. Get your shite done. If you have to leave early just work later the next day or when you get home.
