Just bought a place in Bay St. Louis near the water. People there and neighbors are super nice. We did just rent it out for 10 months but will likely move to that area at some point soon. Baw renting it is building a house nearby and moved from LA.

Doo doo brown color, high temperature, zero clarity due to high amounts of sediment, no waves

Along the coast Ocean Springs is nice. if you want more rural try north D'Iberville/white plains on Hwy 15.

15 minutes to the beach/casinos in biloxi (little bit longer if you head out to white plains). distance to new orleans is similar to Baton Rouge to New Orleans trip

We were considering a move to the MS Gulf Coast last year, and I was leaning towards the Kiln area. Most of them were on a tributary of the Jourdan River, so inland with good fishing and reasonable distance to the gulf. Also liked Ocean Springs alot.

My mother had a condo on the Cardinal course in Diamondhead. She would live there during the summer (June-August)and rent it to snowbirds during the fall/winter/spring. Paid for her condo. Nice area and closer to Fl. for a weekend getaway to some nicer water. Hurricane Katrina didn't do much damage to her area, she was a little higher up than some parts of Diamondhead that flooded.

Pearlington. You can get ten acres and a house on the bayou for $250,000. You can fish inland or be in Lake Borgne in 15 minutes.

Can’t tell if subtle “I’m rich” brag or subtle “don’t move here, peasant” advice, or both.

The water is gross is true. But f you want good water you have to get into Perdido bay or further east, which doubles budget and travel time. So that’s the trade-off

If you buy in the wrong (low lying, or wind blocked area), mosquitoes will eat you alive. People don’t mention this enough. Properties are cheap for a reason in some areas. Even if you build high, the mosquitoes will find you.

Why not move to one of those areas and get away from New Orleans for your family’s sake. If you work in New Orleans you could always commute or get a small apartment for you for the week.

In all seriousness, not sure I'd want to drive through New Orleans east, twice a day, five days a week.

This is what I would want. And a golf cart to ride around in.

Last kid will be out the house in two years so we might end up doing something like this if I can continue mostly working remote.

I live in Pass and live it. Of the 3 you mentioned, Pass is far and away my personal recommendation

Moved to MS coast 5 years ago from BR and wish I would have moved here earlier. Would not want to live anywhere else.
Short Boat Trip to the barrier islands and you will find some beautiful beaches with clear water, uninhabited. I live on the east end of coast but we spend time on the West End. BSL and Pass seem like great places to live.
