The low IQ level that the U.S. Dept. of Education produces is on full display before the end of page 1 of this thread. There were 4-5 people who responded that couldn’t comprehend the OP said coach pitch. So, if you are clapping in that situation when a kid strikes out, you are either applauding the coaches skills or you don’t like the kid at the plate.

No, it took six pages for a lot of them to figure out what coach pitch is.

Full transparency, I didn’t know which coach did the pitching until about halfway through the first page.

Reading comprehension low with this group. He said coach pitch!!! Can you read? Coach pitch!!! It’s basically insinuating that the kid lacks talent to hit a ball. In coach pitch, the coach is the pitcher throwing tomato can BP essentially. So if he strikes out, that means he can’t even hit that. So the OP is asking if you are on the other team, ie playing defense, do you cheer if that happens.

We have always just chilled and not acknowledged it.

By 8ish when they are first transitioning off of the tee, correct.

let me be very honest with you. you're out of touch with today's baseball.

8 yr old baseball these days is hardcore and these kids are very advanced.

For the 4/5/6 year old age range? Didn't realize that.

In our league, it's tee-ball, then two years of coach pitch with no strike outs (hit of the tee after two strikes),, then kid pitch.

Therein lies the problem from my perspective.

I would coach pitch to my nephew's team and I'd throw inside

8 year olds most kids w any talent have done left rec a year and half ago. Rec baseball is bad and doesn’t help kids much if they enjoy the sport and are competitive.

Would be horrible for the development of the kids. So much harder to time. They need to see live pitching

Disagree. It’s pretty easy to hit generally if you know a strike is coming or more importantly that you’re not going to get hit by the ball. Also the kids are not going to face someone a foot taller than them in kid pitch.

At higher levels of 8U Coach pitch where all the kids can hit and field, the best dad pitcher(s) can be the difference in who wins and loses. That is kind of crappy to have a non-player be an important part of your team. Like I said earlier, coach pitch pitcher is not as easy as it sounds.

What’s funny about that. A tall 8 yr is under 5’ tall. I know people take this as a joke but coach pitch pitcher is a pretty difficult thing when the players are of a higher level. Striking one of your players out is a crappy feeling.

After reading the responses...

where do we stand on laughing at adults who have no reading comprehension?

Trashy? Normal?

Many of you are missing the OP's topic. Its COACH pitching, not a kid.

There's no reason to cheer when the teams coach strikes out his own team. Unless you hate kids.

When its kids pitching its perfectly normal to cheer, because a kid is pitching and he did well.

When my son was 8 the coach wanted us to purchase trophies for our kids who finished in last place. I went James Harrison on his arse.

That’s why we have tryouts and sometimes our pitcher is a non dad. Sometimes a brother, and a couple of time we were able to recruit a bystander.

Of course we pay for his room when we travel and they get free booze and eats at the post game celebrations.

You do whatever it takes to get your kid seen, and you can’t have your kids popping up because good ole dad can’t put it right in Jaden’s wheel house.

That’s fricking insane. I don’t care what level of ball it is. If a 7 or 8 year old kid is striking out, it’s not because another child had a better day. fricking sad

Probably just cheering because they have money on the game, which is even sadder.

I definitely understand that is the state of things now. I don’t think it’s a net positive for the kids though.
