When your company focuses on words like inclusion, diversity, gender equality instead of just doing a good job and making a quality product, the folks you hire and the folks that do the hiring produce shitey products and could careless about lunch with the ceo

Micro-managers are the ones who usually are willing to listen to ideas someone has to try and make improvements.
They are usually the ones who will recognise the issue you want to improve.
Aloof managers don't even know there is a problem needing to be solved/improved upon.
Funny how there are apparently only two types of managers in your mind.
I've never met or worked for a micro-manager that was open to suggestions. That's why they micro-manage--so they can have their fingerprint on everything.
The best managers I've worked for are those that allow their employees to do their jobs while still keeping a finger on the pulse.

Nobody gives a frick about eating lunch with the CEO. All they want is to do their work and go home while being paid a livable wage with decent benefits. Not everyone gives a damn about office politics or climbing the corporate ladder
You sound like the typical hourly wage earner who resents his position but doesn’t want or do shite to improve it. And you’ll be the same uninspired employee spewing resentment among your coworkers in your old age, but you’ll never once acknowledge your shitty personal attitude as a factor in your level of dissatisfaction.

The old saying - it's not what you know - it's who you know
has this been lost?
has this been lost?

Man I would love a chance to eat with my CEO. That’s crazy

One in one maybe but this sounded like a group thing. Hard pass for me. Lunch is my time.

Or maybe he is just different than you and has a different philosophy on life. Not sure why you assume someone is unhappy or resents their job because they dont want to go to group lunches hosted by the ceo. I wouldnt want to, im still happy at my job.

Because I’ve worked around a bunch of them. If either of you is a unicorn, congrats. But IME, the people who expound his philosophy are the ones who complain the most.

Is this an actual thing? Or are you just a salesman and the cool new thing to do is just add engineering to every title?

I work for Halliburton. I actually meet the current CEO in Houston walking into the main Halliburton Campus cafeteria early one morning. He opened the door for me and said " How are you"? Then shook his hand, which he had a firm grip, which I was always taught to do and went on about my business. The quickly realized that he is one of the most known and powerful CEO's on the globe! GO BIG RED.....just kidding.

The missing element here is we know nothing about that inner woof this company. My guess is that a lot of people are concerned they might be labeled a kiss arse if they eat lunch with the CEO. Now that nobody does it, they think it is too late to do it.

A lot of the replies to that tweet were absolutely pathetic. They're all too busy and important to have lunch with a "boomer" ceo playing "mind games," and are sure it would be too "awkward." I loathe the obsession that zoomers have with the quoted words.
Unfortunately, I think this is a reflection of today’s workforce climate. There’s a general lack of respect for authority and work ethic. More and more people are lazy and expect things to be handed to them. No motivation to go sit in with the boss in a casual setting.
If I had the same mindset as the YouTube boy you quoted then I’d probably be working at Best Buy making minimum wage too

i’ve done these type of lunches with management before. i didn’t hate it. it’s a big fancy 2-2.5 hour lunch paid for by the company.
I act polite but am always prepared with some topical questions. They are much more transparent and forthcoming in this setting which i appreciate. They typically even ask for your suggestions on issues / problems.
It’s a win win IMO. Then I’ve got 364 other lunches on my own.
I’d happily go to lunch with the Overstock CEO for multiple reasons. a) This a person far more successful than me, i want to know how/why and learn from him. b) i’ve always had an interest in logistics and manufacturing. I’d have 100 questions for him.

No I don't think it has been lost.

I would have to pass on this. Peanut allergies. Not worth the risk.
