They should get about 13% of what LSU gets.

Have you ever been to southern campus
It overlooks the river and is beautiful

defunding of higher education during former Gov. Bobby Jindal’s administration. From 2008-18, Louisiana’s per student spending for higher education dropped 38%, with only Arizona having a more extreme funding reduction during that period.
I will call BS on this while Jindal did cut direct funding. He did so by also allowing universities to raise tuition to closer to where universities were not dependent on direct state funding. Now most of that funding was made up of increased state costs to the TOPS program.

I am sure Southern has some well off donors
I’m sure they do but that doesn’t mean they are going to donate. Have you ever seen black folks tip? Generosity with their own money isn’t really a thing for most black folk

Everyone knows Southern is a shitty school. Pandering for money like usual.

Don’t let the door hit your arse on the way out, CRTate.

There will be no accounting of any investments made in SUBR.

Same thing at Gambling. Their audits were shite for years.

LSU’s responsibility is LSU. The state should cull SUNO and give that leftover money to SU

How about no, and let it fold since it would be throwing good money after bad.

Of course he does...
Look, he's an articulate black man with good educational credentials and an excellent job history, devoid of plagiarism. He is in demand, and he can write his own ticket and I would do the same.
That said, anyone who thinks Southern needs more investment, and that it prove worthwhile, isn't living in reality.

I think we need to cut universities that under perform. If Southern wants that funding then we lose SUNO.

I knew the retired Dean of the Southern Law School, Mr. Van LaCour. A scholar and true gentleman. He despised the lowering of academic standards in the name of “fairness”. He told me that accommodation in the name of fairness was the worst kind of racism.

How much have the authors of the paper donated to Southern?

The Southern U system (along with the very poor performing historically black schools in NO) should be shut down. There is no need for them any longer and they are terrible schools.
Take that money and strengthen the community colleges and the LSU and UL systems.

These are the kind of ideas being pushed and the kind of hires who also focus on this crap that Tate has been doing the entire time. He didn’t want to immediately make things customer or alumni facing but instead building the racial crap with stuff like this, department and dean hires, and pushing scholarships towards blacks including out of state while white LSU alumni are distracted by his support of sports and not shoving black head coaches down their throats just because they are black.
Once enough put in place you would have seen the focus on racial justice and racist math done more upfront when not as much could be done about. Sports are the white male alumni’s bling bling that most of what’s happening at the university is seen through.
This is who he always was and will be. He wrote a paper on math being racist before coming to LSU. He told us who he was, but sports fans didn’t listen.
The President of a University and the dean of its graduate school should not be focusing on funding other schools are getting. Race first blacks will always focus on racial politics. The grad school should go with him to Rutgers.
And southern has been a money pit and had some horrible controls in place in the past. Why throw money away.

Outgoing LSU President William Tate, the first Black president of any SEC school, is calling for more investment in Southern University in a new paper analyzing the financial disparities between Louisiana’s two land-grant universities.
The analysis was written by Tate and Keena Arbuthnot, dean of LSU’s Graduate School, who is also Black, and published in the William & Mary Law Review.

You think he'll be saying New Jersey Tech needs more funding while he's at Rutgers?
He will not.

Southern’s graduation rate is an embarrassment. Southern’s problem isn’t a lack of funding, but a lack of competence. And news flash to the clowns in the Biden admin, the States are free to fund public universities as they see fit. Why should Louisiana citizens be forced to waste money funding a university that cannot educate its students?
It also seems like Southern was one of the six black universities to have the state match its federal funds per the federal law requirement, so why do a study in the first place??? Instead they work numbers and use prior cut backs across state universities to find any way to suggest Southern not getting enough.

There are quite a few colleges/universities that should be consolidated or eliminated. In the New Orleans area alone: UNO, SUNO, Holy Cross, Dillard, Xavier, and, to a lesser extent, Delgado.
UNO, SUNO and Dillard could, between all three, hope to put together one decent faculty and a fair sized student body.
There may be a more informed view , but that’s how it looks to someone who lives and works in the area.
