I found a case of MREs from hurricane Gustav (2008ish?) a few months ago. I ate one of the big arse crackers and jalepeno cheese spreads out of one and it was fine.

The FDA itself says that properly canned food really doesn’t expire unless there’s damage to the can that allows oxygen.
Ive got some cubed steak in a freezer that's nearly six years old. Packaging torn and surely some freezer burn. Ive been reading food forums and Im going to try soaking them in a brine for a day and then cook them. Well see how it goes.

A couple years ago I found some crystalized honey from the 80s at my aunt's place. That lead to me telling her that they had found honey in one of the Egyptian tombs (maybe Tut) and had eaten a bit of it to find that it was just fine. She didn't believe me, so I melted the vintage crystalized honey down and proceeded to eat a couple spoons of it. I'm still here today, so i won the argument.

5 years ago we were cleaning out my parents pantry before their move to assisted living. There was a 1/3 full bottle of Tabasco from 1972 (my dad hates any spice in his food). It was more brown than red and tasted a little odd, but it wasn't terrible after 48 years. Expiration dates are usually nonsense.

Typically agree, but old baking mixes aren't worth a shite.

I believe this was in 2015, I ate a can of bean dip that had an expiration date on it from 2002. I ate the entire can with some fritos and my stomach was pretty upset after. Not sure if it was because the age or the fact I ate a whole can of bean dip in one sitting

I’m going to go with the latter.

Canned food never really expires. They just say that so you’ll throw it out and buy more
