I had a college buddy that was arrested in st Tammany for stealing copper wiring. Went to jail, I was completely blown away. I contacted his sister for his information. I think we talked once or twice over the phone, then I wrote him a few times. By the second or third letter he was asking for money to help his wife or whatever with bills.
I didn't write back or accept his calls.
He wrote a few more times, each time the letters were angrier. I didn't open the last two letters. When he got out of jail he sent me a few hate messages over social media.

I was in a pretty similar scenario to you. Had a real good friend all through high school get locked up in 2013 and I wrote him for his entire sentence which was 3 1/2 years. He did all of his time at the Rayburn Correctional Center. I felt like I kind of owed it to him though just because he would send me king cakes and lots of Saints shite during both of my deployments to Afghanistan before he got into trouble. I actually enjoyed writing him. He would give me the low down every week on what was going on in the prison, who got into fights, etc. He was terrified of his cell mate who was serving life without parole for murder. He would get me to send him cut outs of girls from magazines so he could jerk off to the pictures. This took a lot of trial and error on my end because the first few times I sent him pictures they were straight from a Hustler magazine. I wasn't aware that any photos or pictures couldn't show women naked or posing in a seductive manner and my buddy caught a lot of shite from the guards when I kept sending them. I'd write your friend baw, everybody fricks up and I know writing my old friend helped him a lot while he was doing his time and he's actually doing really now since getting out plus for the years I wrote him it was like watching a crazy prison television show.

You quit being friends with this guy because he smoked too much weed? Or because he was selling it while living with you? Is he locked up for possession and/or intent/distribution?
Whether he was using or selling makes me no difference because of his carelessness. Just think, to be in jail for possession means you've been caught multiple times. At any rate, it was the latter.

Difference between a lot of people on the outside and inside is people on the outside just never got caught. Our criminal justice system turns people who made a mistake into career criminals.
Like I said, he probably is going to end up asking for money or something but I'd feel worse not even giving him a chance.

Help an old friend out. He needs someone to talk to. Are you scared of saying no if he asks for money or a place to stay?

My best friend from HS went to jail for a year. I wrote him 2 letters and he texted me when he got out saying he appreciated it. There's not much in there to do, so he's likely just trying to stay busy.

He will ask for money or pics of your wife.

Was he smoking weed and that's why he went to jail? You never know about these potheads, he may lure you into a visit then hold you at shiv point and force the prison into lockdown

I have a HS friend that is currently serving 7 years ... hadn't seen him in a decade, but i reached out to him after seeing it in the paper. Takes a few minutes and makes a big difference to those on the inside. He's not a bad guy just got caught up in a dangerous lifestyle and it caught up with him.

People don't change. His problems will become urs.
I went thru the same thing last year after "reconnecting". Ended up pissing in a bottle a few times and loaning money to him.
Of course when my house flooded I never heard a word from him.
It's best to let a dead dog lay. Unfortunately.
Worry and deal with ur own issues.

Just ask his brother for his address and tell him you will send him something. Keep the address somewhere safe and if one day you feel like writing something down, do it and mail it.
It doesn't have to be a weekly correspondence. I have an old HS buddy in prison for drug charges. About once, maybe twice a year I send him a letter. Mainly updating on general BS and talk about the Tigers. I'll get a letter from him a few months later. It's not much effort but means a lot to him.

If it's just weed, sure. If it is rape, murder, or theft absolutely not.

Is it fricked up if I ignore?
Are you his friend or not?

If you consider yourself a friend still.. give your number. You may be the reason this man gets his life together

What happens when Debo gets out and comes looking for you wanting to know why you ignored him?
Posted on 8/4/17 at 11:24 am to 13SaintTiger
How did his brother contact you?
Posted on 8/4/17 at 11:29 am to 13SaintTiger
Let him write or nothing. You'll be paying for those collect calls.
