Is this the little girl that Gnarly Barley did a fundraiser for this past weekend? I've been seeing their posts about it and wanted to get out there but our kid was sick this weekend so we missed it. Praying for the girl and her family. Cancer sucks.
Yes, her mom and dad were actually able to come in for it. It was a good time! Had a great turnout, too.

I’m bumping this thread due to the fact that when I posted the gofundme, it was pretty vague at the time. I posted it right when she was diagnosed. She has since been admitted to St. Jude’s has endured ongoing chemo and radiation treatments. She’s set for transplant this week.
quote:
It’s been an emotional roller coaster over the past 24 hours. We got Erma’s scans back, and her curie score came in at a 4. That news hit hard. We were so confident, with all the prayers lifted up and how amazing she’s been doing, that her score would be lower. But today, I was reminded that this number is just that — a number — and I know that God is still healing her! When we met with her team, they showed us the scans, and honestly, they look incredible. It’s amazing to see how far she’s come, from not being able to walk to where she is now! Her team was thrilled with her progress and response to treatment! While the official score was a 4, another radiologist on campus reviewed the scans and felt it looked more like a 1 or 2. To get the clearest picture of what’s left in her spine, we’ll be doing an MRI on Monday. Even though the results weren’t exactly what we prayed for, God is still working and still moving. He’s not done with Erma yet, He’s using her and her story in powerful ways! We are forever grateful for your prayers, fasting, and love. You are such a big part of Erma’s healing, and we couldn’t do this without you. ?? And now, we’ve got the green light to move forward with transplant next week.
re: Hammond, LA city council just voted to make the city dry

Read the agenda and watched the video.
It appears that the motion was an annual renewal for all current liquor licenses. It did not carry.
The very next motion was a gas station under new ownership (in Hammond city limits) applying for a liquor permit. It passed 5-0
Councilman Carlie abstained due to conflicts of interest. Kip abstained due to religious beliefs. One councilman (Wells) who normally votes in favor of liquor abstained which was odd. Either he is back in the bar business or he just didn’t pay attention to what the motion was.
They’ll bring it back to vote next month and it’ll pass. The paperwork for the permit has to be notarized and turned in to city court by December 15th, I believe.
re: Lack of Empathy- What is causing it?
Posted by DuckManiak on 7/25/25 at 1:16 pm to Our Friend Jim
From the wise lyrics of Cody Jinks “No Words”.
My whole view of the world has changed
I guess that comes with age
I don’t believe there’s good in every man like I did back then
It’s hard to find empathy for others when you’re as exposed to people’s worst behavior as much as we are at the swipe of a finger.

That gofundme needs a better description of the situation As it is there is nothing
You’re right, it was started by one of her friends. This is from her personal Facebook page

After a month we finally have her official diagnosis. Stage 4 high risk neuroblastoma. We knew this news was coming and it still brought us to our knees. We ask for specific prayers of strength as we start chemo on Thursday. Strength for Erma to be brave and strength for us to be brave for her because seeing her suffer is unbearable. We would also love prayers over her genetic testing that comes back in a month to give us an idea of how aggressive her cancer is. Many people have asked how to send Erma mail and I know she would love to open cards and send mail to her friends! Our new address is below. Lastly, I have tried to find the words to express my gratitude for every person that has reached out, offered help, donated money, or let me know they were praying for us but I have no words. Every time I see or hear that people are praying for Erma it gives me so much hope! Thank you from the bottom of our hearts for supporting us! We couldn't fight this without yall! If you feel led you can donate below but most importantly keep on praying for Erma's miracle!
I took out their new address.

It sucks a little more when it’s a child.
My wife and I have a friend that has a 4 year old little girl and they just found out she has stage 4 high risk neuroblastoma. They were able to remove the tumor but are still waiting for the genetic testing to come back to find out how aggressive it is.
They have been admitted to Children’s and moved from Hammond to Memphis for 16-24 to start chemo/radiation treatments
They have started a Gofundme. If you would like to donate, I know it would mean the world to them.
If you believe in the power of Prayer, and wouldn’t mind throwing one their way, they could definitely use them.

Give tboy a break. He coming off the bayou and on the rig in a week. I don’t wanna have to hear him nag the rest of the time.

re: Entergy river bend station

A waterford 3 unit is down for yearly maint, and River Bend tripped. Mostly likely a cooling water pump or turbine building aux trip. I’m out of the nuclear game, but once a unit trips, it’s not like it starts right back up. Tedious process.
re: Voting in St George today. How you leaning? Specifically tax proposals

I have no skin in the game, I’m not an EBR voter. My BIL is an ADA and in favor of the DA mill. He sees the backlog and it’s mostly forensics testing holding up cases. Almost all gun cases. TIFWIW
re: Have you ever seen someone die?

I believe I’ve shared this story on here before, but, I was 17 in high school working as a cashier at a local gas station. I thought a drunk guy was walking in. He fell out at the counter with a snickers bar saying that his blood sugar was low. I called 911 but he had come to almost instantly and refused medical.
He ate his snickers bar sitting down and when he got up he fell back down and out almost immediately. I called 911 again and started chest compressions. First responders got there in 3-5 min. He never came back to and first responders said he probably died before hitting the ground from a massive heart attack.

I crashed the bi-plane around 10 years ago and sold the other plane. Haven’t flown in 8 years or so. Was a fun, but, expensive hobby.

I know a few people who are from Bogalusa, originally. They’ve all moved out of that shithole. They also can’t get their older parents to move out of their original homes. A lot of times, even after it gets burglarized. Pretty sad.

Kershaw 1660 is my EDC. I like the blade lock in case my kids grab it off the counter. Sharpens easy and has pretty good action.

My dad was an amateur astronomer too. He had a pretty cool telescope with a tracker on it. He could put it on a star or planet and we’d walk out there the next day and it would be aimed straight at the ground. I still don’t know how he got the base pointed directly at Polaris.
I’m no astronomer. My 4 year old has been really into space since we saw the ISS one night in October or November. I was also able to get a video of the SpaceX shuttle re-entry from work and showed him.
I download an app that tells me where the planets are and we were able to kind of see them through the $30 telescope my wife and I bought him for Christmas  we just happened to see a bunch of drones tonight.
