New study suggests possible connection between GLP-1s and hair loss in men
quote:
Hair loss has become one of the most reported concerns among people taking GLP-1 drugs, such as Ozempic, Wegovy and Zepbound — so much so that the phenomenon has earned the nickname “Ozempic hair.”
Several studies have investigated whether these drugs are linked to hair loss, but none has shown that the medications themselves cause hair to fall out. Now, new research offers a clue about a possible biological connection between GLP-1s and thinning hair — at least in men.
In the study, published in the Journal of Investigative Dermatology, researchers at NYU Langone Health found a link between higher levels of the GLP-1 receptor in the blood and male-pattern hair loss. The finding doesn’t mean that men who take GLP-1s will definitely develop male pattern hair loss, but it suggests that these medications could be contributing to what people are observing.

Kind of sad that a “man” would take these drugs

They're so smug about their miracle drug too. Good, more side effects

If hair loss is an overall side effect of GLP-1 medications, but taking them ultimately helps someone become healthier overall -- and gives them more confidence, I think that for many that would be a trade off worth exploring.

They need to let LOOSE of their hair before they LOSE that weight.

Hair loss is often a side effect of overall stress or bad health.
Many of these people are still metabolically unhealthy so this doesn’t shock me at all.

Hair loss is a side effect of rapid weight loss, whether it be from fasting, gastric bypass or glp1

What most folks don't know is that the human body produces GLP-1 NATURALLY.

Ozempic® may cause serious side effects, including:
Possible thyroid tumors, including cancer. Tell your health care provider if you get a lump or swelling in your neck, hoarseness, trouble swallowing, or shortness of breath. These may be symptoms of thyroid cancer. In studies with rodents, Ozempic® and medicines that work like Ozempic® caused thyroid tumors, including thyroid cancer. It is not known if Ozempic® will cause thyroid tumors or a type of thyroid cancer called medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC) in people
Do not use Ozempic® if:
you or any of your family have ever had MTC, or if you have an endocrine system condition called Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia syndrome type 2 (MEN 2)
you have had a serious allergic reaction to semaglutide or any of the ingredients in Ozempic® injection or Ozempic® tablets
Before using Ozempic®, tell your health care provider if you have any other medical conditions, including if you:

ORLANDO, Fla. — Since a study published last year found that patients taking GLP-1 drugs — the active ingredient in Ozempic and Wegovy — may be at higher risk of developing an eye condition that can cause blindness, researchers have been working to learn more about a possible connection to vision loss. Two new studies presented this week at the 129th annual meeting of the American Academy of Ophthalmology offer mixed results: one found GLP-1 drugs can increase the risk of diabetic retinopathy and non-arteritic anterior ischemic optic neuropathy (NAION), while another study suggests the drug may offer protection against dry age-related macular degeneration (AMD).

The irony would be if this is tied to increased testosterone from losing weight

Jokes on them. Makes my bald head more smooth which is what the ladies like.

Joke's on them... I'm already thinning and skinny

The hair loss is reversible. When you loose weight rapidly you develop telogen effluvium, basically early shedding of hair. This was seen in 3-5% of study participants. Hard to say what role if any the drug accumulation in the scalp causes. I would rather lose a little hair temporarily than die of an MI at 50 because I’m morbidly obese.

It's better to be bald than fat.
Being bald wouldnt negatively impact my life in any way I could think of. Being fat would negatively impact my life in many ways.

Nutrafol will negate that issue. It’s good stuff.
Not sure how people handle the weight loss drugs, but you don’t go from 0-60 at the beginning. You start off with a small dose, make headway, upgrade to the next does if needed, and repeat.
People go for the home run on day one and that’s probably a big issue.
Then you have the people taking the black market GLP, and going on a binger for immediate results. God help you.

Are there any side effects of nutrafol that require even more meds, etc.?
