One of those has to be the new mail in variant. It was bad in 2020 but they thinking this one will be new and improved.

At least at this point, it has basically evolved into the flu. New variants will return every year. Along with that, new vaccines will roll out every year as well.

That was my point. They don’t actually deserve a pass if they vote in this country. But I at least theoretically understand Asians due their mask culture that far predates CV-9. And the old ones are just old and victims of psychological elder abuse.

No, COVID will not return every year, because unlike the flu the virus, COVID is here to stay.
New variants are being generated almost monthly, just like other respiratory viruses that cause the common cold; rhinoviruses, adenoviruses, parainfluenza viruses, human metapneumoviruses.
These respiratory viruses (including SARS-CoV-2) mutate constantly and form variants throughout the year. The main reason the common cold persists and re-infections occur throughout the year, kids in daycare would get re-infected sometimes 2x monthly.
Just like we do not test, nor do we worry, about every single running noses/cough/congestion for these other respiratory viruses, we need to stop testing and worrying about COVID. The pandemic is over, we f’ed up in our response to for the past 3 years.
It’s time to stop, treat COVID as a common cold, and move on…

Really? Not one single death from a common cold? I had an asthmatic 9 y.o. kid admitted to the PICU for severe respiratory distress that require continuous albuterol treatments, on supplemental oxygen, and IV steroids for 2 days.
Respiratory panel… positive for rhinovirus, negative for flu A/B, RSV, and COVID.
The kid didn’t die, thankfully… but there are a lot of people with chronic health conditions like COPD, emphysema, congestive heart failure, hypertension, uncontrolled diabetes, morbidity obesity… just a little physiological stress like a common viral illness can easily push them over.
Over 98% of COVID deaths occurred in the past 3 years are in the elderly and people with the above pre-existing conditions.
Are you sure you’re going to stand by your ‘knowledge’?
ETA: The current COVID variant did not kill millions of people as you so dramatically posted. The current variant of COVID is nothing like the original COVID that started this pandemic. The current variant is much less virulent, causing much milder illness, than the 2020 OG and the 2021 variants.
Future variants COVID will have to be less virulent and more transmissible. To become the next dominant strain, the variant must not kill the host or make the host bedridden because that will decrease the transmission.
Therefore, the OG COVID is never coming back!! So yeah… COVID will become more and more like a common cold… stop worrying and move on…

Pretty sure it’s already there. Each “surge”clearly shows fewer and fewer hospitalizations. The omicron hospitalizations “surge” was more related to people freaking out about needing to get tested and people already hospitalized also catching the virus (probably bc everyone was flocking to the hospital to get tested).
