I agree with saying that diarrhea is a killer, but the rhinovirus which causes the common cold doesn't kill. Sure it causes respiratory distress, but not death.

Diarrhea is a different process entirely, and kills people indiscriminately. One of the worst possible infections is C. diff enterocolitis, and kills tens of thousands of Americans in nursing homes each year.

Did you know that diarrhea was one of many dreaded symptoms of COVID-19?

“Up to 650 000 deaths annually are associated with respiratory diseases from seasonal influenza.” That’s from the WHO.

Guess that puts and end to my potential WA trip this fall.

Saw a certain demographic wearing masks today while pumping gas

Said demographic will probably wear a mask when they're by themselves in the car.

So the symptoms of COVID and the seasonal flu are bad, but the exact same symptoms from the common cold are fine and not at all lethal.

Don’t see a ‘cyclical’ evolution, just one direction mutation toward more transmissibility and less virulence like all respiratory viruses that cause the common cold.

It's been three years with a novel virus. The timeline of cyclical virulence is much longer than that.

I can't believe this is a serious discussion. It's like describing the difference between a residential cul-de-sac and a trafficy 4-lane city boulevard.

The common cold is uncomfortable but rarely produces fever. Symptoms are annoying but usually subside in 3-4 days. Flu usually results in high fever, confusion, severe body aches and sometimes pneumonia and hospitalization. And COVID-19 is a high-speed limited access multilane freeway - esp during the early stages of the pandemic with rampant respiratory distress syndromes and ventilator usage. It was as if everything that could go wrong, did. Those cytokine storms were a form of climate change all their own.

I hope they try this shite again. I really do. Because I think a majority of people are going to lose their shite. It'll be fun to watch, honestly.

Saw my toddler's ped yesterday, who is a good dude but likely a center-left Dem "don't worry about it, COVID has zero impact on healthy kids anyway and we're just going to have to start thinking about it like any other seasonal illness."

Wife saw her OB today, who is definitely lib - "Same as any other illness going around that can cause fever, good to avoid given the circumstances if you can, but you don't need to change anything. Current boosters probably don't do anything anyway."

I'm guessing the medical community is pretty burned out by having to try to justify unjustifiable things like recommending 5 year olds get the vaccine.

Wrong. They die of preexisting conditions, not colds

Do you mean when they said that this person died from ‘exacerbation of COPD’… what could exacerbate this pre-existing condition?

Or when a patient with congestive heart failure and pulmonary edema developed and die from pneumonia… could a rhinovirus or adenovirus tigger it?

A person with stage 4 small cell lung cancer and neutropenic… how deadly would a cold be?

In all of these circumstances, the cause of death is not going to listed as a cold, but a cold can certainly make their condition fatal.

It’s time to stop, treat COVID as a common cold, and move on…

This. But mf'ers are still scared. Some insurers won't cover the test and dumbasses will still shell out $50 for a test. I want to slap every damn one of them across the face. I'm around that shite every day and give zero shits. I want to be exposed. Gotta keep that immune system in top notch shape.

People think there's some big secret why many of us doctors never get sick, but it's as simple as not being a fricking germaphobe and letting your immune system do what it's designed to do.

So you’re saying that we should be wary that a more deathly variant might happen, but since the this coronavirus came into existence, all of its subsequent variants had followed a pattern of becoming less and less virulent…

Do people remember the looney tunes cartoon: Claude the nervous cat and the frisky puppy?

That’s how people like crazy4lsu and tarzana are during the entire pandemic, anyone that mentions ‘COVID!’ and they will be on the ceiling.

Uh, no. The common cold, to my knowledge, even though it's been around as long as humankind, has never been directly attributed to even one human death. Conversely, COVID has killed MILLIONS, in just 3 1/2 years.

I bet the only time your dropped your mask was to slurp Fauci.

MILLIONS that died may have had Covid, but the vast majority had multiple underlying conditions, and the death counts were conspicuously manipulated to induce unwarranted fear into idiots just like you.

Part of me believes that Covid was actually designed to do what it did and specifically target the elderly and morbidly unhealthy as kind of a “thinning the herd” type thing. That just seems like something China would do.

Covid quite simply targeted and in many cases killed people who probably were in the last 1-5yrs of their life anyway. Coincidentally, those are the same group of people that require the largest amount of healthcare $$. The theory is that killing them off would save tons of $$ in healthcare savings.
