Glad to see warming centers opened in Houston starting last night.

Every single road and bridge is "impassable"? Not discounting their abundance of caution, but I find that highly improbable.

Steady snow is about to taper off in Nashville. Widespread reports of 7-8" in the area.

Got out and walked around and Oxford got much more snow than I thought we did
Easily 6 inches
The roads are covered .
About to be calling in to work for tomorrow. Won’t be able to make it .

Well I just went out and measured and we have 7 inches in Tennsippibama
I honestly think it's the most I've seen in my lifetime

Curious -- what general area do you live in? My daughter keeps deicer but I ordered a snow brush/something from Amazon. I'm also assuming that the university will be shut down for a couple of days.

Different story for the Mrs though.

You’re probably right.
Because they’re shutting stuff down.
So there wont be a mass of people on dangerous roads for bad things to happen to. So yeh, it’s gonna look like nothing happened once everything melts. That’s the point.

I just drove across town and back to G-town.
What a mess.
8 hours later it's still a mess. Poplar from Carters Grove out to Byhalia is a mess and back in from Byhalia all the way up Kirby Parkway is a mess. From Kirby Parkway to Estate one lane is basically clear down to the pavement, but coming back it isn't. Word of warning... do NOT stop at the Poplar/West Farmington intersection... might not get enough traction to get started again. Didn't happen to me, but did to 2 other people whom I am ashamed to admit that I didn't stop to help... because a) it's cold outside and b) it's REALLY cold outside. Besides, I saw other people who'd stopped to help in a 4wd pickup... I figure they can handle it.
Poplar Pike from Germantown rd by the High School to Birnam Wood is iffy but passable.
Kroger is open. Whole Foods is open. Subway is open. That seems to be pretty much it other than convenience stores.
That concludes the 2:30 traffic update from Germantown.

That's up there for that area. I wasn't living there at the time, but I recall a snowstorm in Jan. 2011 that had double digit totals in southern Middle.

7 inches would also be the most she's seen in her lifetime
From me anyways....

This is weird. NW Calcasieu, dictionary definition of wintery mix. Freezing rain for 5 minutes, then sleet for a bit, then really tiny snowflakes. I’ve seen sleet and snow at the same time but I’ve never seen the types cycle like this.

Where do you live? In/Near Iuka? Or actually in a house on the lake?

Still nothing accumulating in St George. I bet they canceled school for nothing.

In our area of north AL 1993 and 2011 are the big ones in my lifetime. We had ~9" in 2011. Maybe a little more than that in 1993, but the highest totals were just south of us. 1963 is the historic record with 15"+ in some areas.
