Yep. Big highways are going to be a mess in Houston after dark today. Everything NE of downtown is already a mess.

I understand that not everyone agrees on the school closure topic, but the one thing I ask of everyone is please don’t have a whole debate on that topic that derails the thread.

Freezing fricking rain in NW Calcasieu now. Glazing vehicles, plants, with small icicles on house. Hope it quits quick.

What accumulation starts affecting power lines?

Usually when you start approaching a quarter inch.

Intermittent freezing drizzle in Tim McGraw country. So far not enough to affect roads or power lines. Steady 24 degrees and 10-15 mph wind.

I believe around a tenth of an inch some lines can be affected. A quarter inch and plenty are affected. There’s a possibility of some sporadic minor outages around BR.

Thanks but what about Entergy's state of the art power lines, when do they start degrading?

We are ready, checked and ran generator, made some groceries, filled the truck up, got the wife some wine, and me some green.

God speed…

Salad is healthy and a good choice. What dressing do you prefer?

I did my part to ensure that absolutely nothing will happen around here.
I ran a special trip to the gas station to fill up the gas cans so the generator can run if needed.

Models are showing most of south LA getting 0.05-0.1 of freezing rain. So it’s either gonna be nothing or a total mess tonight.

Also when enough ice accumulates on trees to have limbs or entire trees fall on the power lines. I’m sure there are plenty of dead and weakened trees there after all the hurricanes and last summer’s drought.

And it doesn't take much for it to take out tree limbs, which in turn takes out lines.
