I’m 36 and don’t have kids yet, but we will. To be honest, I’m pretty encouraged reading through this thread. The cynic in me expected a lot of responses opposite to these. Cheers to all the Dads and Moms out there doin’ your own damn thing and enjoying family life.

Yep, it also helps to have a younger wife. One of my concerns, other than being tired all the time again, on having a third is my wife is now 36. Every year older for her it greatly enhances the risk of birth defects or downs.

I agree that 40 is better than 20 but there are always exceptions and pros and cons.

We had two early. I was 22 with the first and 24 with the second. It was a struggle because we weren't making much money and had no idea what we were doing. In retrospect, it was the best decision ever. Now, we are in our late 40's with no kids and virtually no debt. Hope we get some grandkids to play with.

I was 39 and a month and a half from 40 when I had mine. And most of me is glad I waited that long, but there’s some of me that wishes it would’ve been sooner. Especially my back.

I'm mid-40s and coach a youth soccer team, and I'm the most energetic person out there, field or sidelines.

Let me pat you on your back, you old-looking frick. IF you read the post, it said you look old as frick.

I have a female friend who had her first at 42, and the second at 44. Her husband is a few years older than her. She has two boys. The boys are 16 & 18 now - great family.

Easier for you than the mom over 40... plenty folks around here are doing it, but be aware 40+ looks old as frick when you show up for tee ball practice with Braylynn, and the other dads are 30.

The upside is you quit caring when you’re old as frick, so it doesn’t really matter if you look old.

Over the age of 35 is considered a high risk pregnancy. There’s usually a couple of blood tests that are done looking for markers that would identify DS. I believe it’s 1 in a 100.

My friend was born in 1983 and his Dad was a WW2 vet born in 1924.(59)
He had a half sister older than his mom and had neices and nephews 20 years older then him. Actually one of the nephews is a state representative now.

Always thought it was crazy, but that's why I like ww2 so much. I used to talk to his dad all the time about island hopping with the marines.

My dad was 41 and 45 when my brother and I were born. I had 3 kids of my own at 32, 34, and 36.

He looked a lot younger at 40 than I did

FWIW a lot of the parents at my kids school had their first in their 40s. It’s a pretty affluent school and all the kids seem pretty well adjusted. I think you can bring a lot of wisdom to fatherhood later in life.

While I definitely didn't have as much wisdom being much younger than the average, things are fine and kids are doing well. I am excited that the youngest will turn 18 and be off to college the year I turn 40. At this point, I couldn't imagine having more kids at or close to 40.

It's just because you had kids young. Not all, but most people that had a kid at 40+ probably haven't been raising kids for 15+ years already.

I was 39. Wasn’t that bad. Wife had another when I was 41.

Both of our kids slept pretty well. So that helped.

Very close. I was 10 months shy of the big 4-0.

It has worked out really well. I was barely ready for a kid at 39. Thank God Almighty that I wasn't a dad before then.

Got 1 at 36 and will likely have one more.

My paternal family were all ancient when they had kids. Great grandfather was born during the Civil War...

41 @ first kid. 43 @ 2nd I realized that I didn't chase and run etc with my kids when they are ..6 ..7 etc like I would have if I were 10 yrs younger. I also realized that when I want to retire. My youngest will just hopefully getting out of college... Where as all my HS buddies, they're they're are just becoming grandparents or becoming empty nesters. I don't have kids in middle school yet
