Define work. Most will not be missed.
I hope cut another 25% by end of next year.

The younger generations are already dealing with increased college tuition, higher housing cost, generalized inflation, sky high health insurance, increased car prices, and now a decreased STEM job market. All of those problems are directly tied to governmental policy decisions.

You didn't even touch on the imbalanced dating scene.

I'm glad I'm an old frick these days, as annoying as all that was for me, it would be 100x worse today

In my experience, coming from the engineering world that has lots of these professionals employed, if a person has been fully career raised in the government world then they cant hack consulting (engineers included). There are pleasant surprises but for the most part cant keep up with client timelines.

Yeah I can see that in engineering or other sciences where the work done makes sense in the consulting world.

Natural resource folks have alittle bit more of an issue because the private sector consulting jobs arent in the same universe of jobs that the state and/or federal government typically has done historically.

If they have a good math/stats background they can jump into statistical consulting, but few natural science folks have that kind of background

That isn't directly tied to government policy decisions, although I'm sure you can make the argument in a more attenuated way. To borrow a quote from Fight Club 27 years ago:

quote:

Tyler: Durden: My dad never went to college, so it was real important that I go.

Narrator : Sounds familiar.

Tyler Durden : So I graduate, I call him up long distance, I say “Dad, now what?” He says, “Get a job.”

Narrator : Same here.

Tyler Durden : Now I’m 25, make my yearly call again. I say Dad, “Now what?” He says, “I don’t know, get married.”

Narrator : I can’t get married, I’m a 30 year old boy.

Tyler Durden : We’re a generation of men raised by women. I’m wondering if another woman is really the answer we need.

Frankly, foreigners should not be allowed to work in the US. All jobs should be for Americans only. If you cannot hire an American, use AI or do without

Maybe you should return your degree because you fail to understand 2nd and 3rd order factors on top of the incorrect number assuming you don’t single out one year and look at it from a macro level

Anyone have an idea what those weird spikes in federal workers that appear every decade are?

A positive of H1B influx is that it should bring the costs of every down for consumers. Less capital spend on expensive employees and their benefits should make companies be able to price their products at more competitive prices.

You’re expectation is that companies will reduce prices on their products because CAPEX reductions?

You guys are misunderstanding the pipeline. You might only have 500k current H1B holders, but many end up getting green cards and then citizenship.

Which leads to 1/3 of silicon valley being Indian. Yes that is true. One fricking third of some of the highest paying jobs in America. For no other reason than they were cheaper for those executive to hire.

I voted for trump, but he and Elon sold out America on this one.

Now just get a grip on H1B visas and these folks will find a place in the private sector.

Win/win

Every once in a while I will see a news story of a fired fed employee struggling to find a white collar job for 6+months.

That should tell you something right there.

I’m in the middle of it, as an older guy now, and only 3 years into my career.
