What's good for the goose is good for the gander I suppose.

It’s messed up when i see things how people with masters degrees and even double masters that had a federal job will go through one of those government situations where an office shuts down and they are out of work and spend 6 months to a year trying to find a job.

That’s insane.

Why is it insane?

Why is spending increasing, then? FY26 is projected to be a bigger deficit than FY25. Where is the money going?

Wait, you think that the vast majority of money the US federal govt spends goes toward federal employee salaries?

You’re expectation is that companies will reduce prices on their products because CAPEX reductions?

sure it will. You don't think a home built by mostly Hispanics isn't going to be cheaper than home built by Americans? You think food prices will stay the same if only americans are allowed to pick apples?

May I interest you in the term sticky pricing?

It applies to almost the whole economy now.

Getting rid of government sponsored "lazy girl" jobs will help a little.

What really needs to happen is to quit being so generous in subsidizing single motherhood. Men who work and are smart shouldn't have to subsidize a problem he didn't create. That should fall on the mother who made bad decisions and the loser who knocked her up.

If you can't understand the problem with outsourcing our middle class, then there's not much hope for you

Bruuuhhhh

The fear is strong in this one.

H1B, where are they and what jobs do they hold

H1B holders are not near as much of a risk to the middle class as the illegals who are pricing the middle class out of work.

If you can't understand that, well then I cannot instill hope into you.

I really hope these folks are not going to have any trouble being absorbed into private sector. Every once in a while I will see a news story of a fired fed employee struggling to find a white collar job for 6+months.

Contrary to what the government is reporting the labor market is tight for everyone right now.

The number of federal government employees is now at it’s lowest level in 50+ years.

And yet spending is going up which shows the average gov employee is not the problem. Its the people up top. This is all theater.

Frankly, foreigners should not be allowed to work in the US. All jobs should be for Americans only. If you cannot hire an American, use AI or do without

You do realize this type of visa is a 2-way street. Not only do we have these types of work visas, but so do pretty much all countries. Should my buddy just come back from Hilversum because only the Dutch or AI should do it?

That article doesn’t address all H1-B visa holders, only those working in Higher Ed. The majority of H1B visa holders work in tech jobs, which they fill because they cost less, not because of a lack of domestic workers with similar skills.

Private sector being flooded by H1B.

It’s not rocket science. Trump got rid of one problem (illegals) for a new problem (H1B) that quite frankly is worse.

This is an extreme oversimplification and frankly a sky is falling view of this issue.

Yes, there should be fewer H1Bs. No, that doesn't negate what Trump has been doing.

Sorry, wrong link.

I had more than one page open on my phone and am eating at the same time.

slightly better, but still not the one I wanted

Anyway, the claim was H1Bs hurt middle class. They do not hurt middle class as much as people driving wages of the middle class down. The overwhelming majority of H1B jobs are above middle class.

Edit to add that even though H1B has not been closed, it is much more expensive to get now.

changes to H1B

Nobody is really fiscally conservative. If they benefited from it, its not bad. If somebody else does, then it is bad. Very few people are consistent on this.
