Shep just said the island that the cathedral is on is now being evacuated. What's that about?

It's a very densely packed area. I'm guessing the concern is this spreading elsewhere.

It should be getting dark soon. Perhaps they're worried about the logistics of keeping it contained at night?

The fact that church vandalization and arson has been widespread in Paris, Occams Razor would suggest it was foul play

That ain’t exactly the razor old Willie used.

Yeah and it looks like the fire hoses are concentrated on containing it to just the cathedral.

a lot of burning embers flying around could potentially start another fire or burn people who are standing around gawking

I'm just wondering how the fire could get out of control so quickly.
Were fire suppression devices disabled during construction?

It’s not a far fetched conclusion. There are a lot of radical Muslims in the EU. To think someone could do this is pretty realistic.

I’m pretty much in a wait and see mode as far as the cause of the fire is concerned. On the one hand it’s entirely possible the fire is a result of an accident on the renovation project going on. But in the other hand it entirely possible this was an act of terrorism by a Muslim due to the fact terrorist acts by Muslims is very common in Paris.

But for now all we can do is wait and see.

It’s beyond salvation at this point. The focus now is containment and safety and nearby buildings/people.

The fire had been going on for 2 hours before the US (news) knew of it

The stone shell can be saved still. The towers appear to be intact.

It's so open on the inside, not much you can do. Lot of air convection to drive the fire and a lot of old wood that would catch quickly.

Have we seen any areal footage of the fire? Perhaps from drone?

There’s a lot of wood in those bell towers. I hope they can stop it before then.

It took several hundred years.

Actually 182 years but still a long time. Also people typically only lived 40 or so years so generation after generation saw this cathedral being built only to die before it was finished. Tremendous amount of history being lost today.

Well that’s good. I do hope there is somethings that can be saved.
