It is very odd how quickly they made that claim. I mean the news just started breaking about the fire and they instantly had the cause out there.
It’s not a far fetched conclusion. There are a lot of radical Muslims in the EU. To think someone could do this is pretty realistic.

It's certainly not the first time they've lit Paris on fire
I'm saying it's not typical. It still happens though, you're right.

How many times was a large renovation happening? They keep saying on Fox news that it started in a construction area in the rear on the church.

No.
Why bring it up then?

I assume at this point we are just hoping the walls don't crumble and cave in.

Construction area might’ve been an easy target to start a fire.
Devils advocate.
I think it was an accident though.

first responders are trying to save some of the art and historic pieces

I saw it was almost 8 pm local time when the spire collapsed. What time did it start? Seems like it was after typical working hours

arson from a worker?

For those chastising people for speculating immediately it was terrorism, please consider
1) Paris has had a string of church vandalism over last 2 months
2) the Notre Dame cathedral is a huge Christian symbol and thus a prime target for radical Islamic terrorism
3) Paris moreso than other major Western European cities has stifled with Islamic terror attacks over last 4 years
4) this is Holy Week
They are saying it was construction related and not terror, but any rational person would have immediately thought in their mind it could be terror when they first saw the images

That’s where it originated, but they don’t know what caused it. Construction sites are easy to access.

Yeah, I hadn't actually read any details about the fire before I made my post. That's my bad.
If it started in a construction area, then that is perfectly logical.
However, it is crazy the entire cathedral ended up fully engulfed though.

Shep just said the island that the cathedral is on is now being evacuated. What's that about?

I think a lot of people here are hoping it's Muslims tbh. It's kinda sad.

Sure, if you ignore the fact it's surrounded by scaffolding and clearly undergoing a renovation.

Maybe, but a fire isn't really their MO, and considering the immense scaffolding and remodel work, Occam's razor would suggest it was an accident.
Or
The fact that church vandalization and arson has been widespread in Paris, Occams Razor would suggest it was foul play
Posted on 4/15/19 at 1:43 pm to TH03
How in God's name do you allow such an inferno to occur at a priceless architectural work that is one of the world's great cultural treasures? There must have been negligence on a tragic scale.
Posted on 4/15/19 at 1:43 pm to TheCaterpillar
Probably 50/50 odds of a construction accident or arson/terrorism. But if it was arson/terrorism, they will call it a construction accident.

Churches have been vandalized everywhere in Paris recently. IF those were acts of terrorism, then it’s logical to think that hitting Notre Dame at the beginning on the Christian Holy Week would be a terrorist’s endgame
It’s too early to discredit anything -fair or foul- at this point, but the fact that this has been happening a lot lately in Paris should send up some red flags
My thoughts as well.
What part of the church were they doing the renovations on?
