The fact that church vandalization and arson has been widespread in Paris, Occams Razor would suggest it was foul play
You're not crazy for thinking it could be terrorism, I wondered the same, but construction accident, considering the very clear work being done, is the simplest answer.

Shep just said the island that the cathedral is on is now being evacuated. What's that about?
It's a pretty small island, it's pretty densely built (outside of the plaza in front of Notre Dame), and they are probably concerned about the fire spreading to other buildings and the bridges creating choke points for people trying to get out.

I think a lot of people here are hoping it's Muslims tbh. It's kinda sad.
I don’t think anyone is hoping it’s Muslims. Rather they’re stating the obvious fact that’s a distinct possibility. Do you not agree this is a possibility?

I feel the pictures don't do it justice. Experiencing this in person is quite breath taking.

On the one hand it’s entirely possible the fire is a result of an accident on the renovation project going on.
If that is the case, every worker that was there today will be shitting their pants, worried that they are about to become the most hated man in France. The honcho of the company contracted for the work is probably on his way out of the country as we speak.

In another video I saw, there was scaffolding on the roof. Probably a cigarette from a construction baw.

They are at war with western civilization regardless if you believe it or not. They have been at war with the west (and east...actually everyone not muslim) since mohammad.

Interested to know how all of the workers managed to get off of that massive building/roof and avoid injury.

Not true. Avg age is in the 40s Bc of the astronomically high child mortality rate. If you made it past early childhood your chance of reaching 60-70 were definitely reasonable

Tbh, I’m leaning towards terrorism. There a lot of that kind of crap going on. I would also bet that the construction crew used isn’t just some father and son group out there working on a national treasure. They are probably experts and chances of a mishap are probably lower than normal if I had to guess. But I’m just speculating.

And it’s entirely possible one of those workers intentionally started it. Bottom line is right now nobody here knows how it started. All we can do is wait and see.

I saw it was almost 8 pm local time when the spire collapsed. What time did it start? Seems like it was after typical working hours
About 6pm Paris time.

For those saying there will be a rebuild, there should be, BUT:
scientists to this day still are not completely sure how the roof structure was built.
It will be tough to replicate

At this point, I don't think historical accuracy is paramount

Sure but UK just posted warnings this week they had evidence of planned attacks across Europe and its Holy Week. Construction is done every day on old buildings there without burning them down. I’d say about equal odds of both with the warnings.

Hmmm

No real reason to wait and see, those that believe it was terrorism won’t be swayed by any statements from the French government stating otherwise
Posted on 4/15/19 at 1:55 pm to AaronDeTiger
looks like the worst of the flames are back by the scaffolding and are well away from the 2 towers

That thought is gnawing at the back of my mind as well. I think it’s a pretty big coincidence this fire happens on Monday of Holy Week. I can’t say this is the case for sure. But it does raise suspicion.
