Are they going to shut down Harrahs?
I get robbed every time I go there by the one armed bandits.

Business ‘A’ is friendly with Moreno. Business ‘B’ isn’t.
Business ‘A’ wants ‘B’ shut down because they think ‘A’ is running illegally because they having trouble competing so they now have a law to lean on and get their competition shut down.
Brilliant.
It’ll likely be focused on bars and restaurants who are suspected of serving minors or running prostitutes (strip clubs and dance clubs do this)

Y'all want Scandinavian levels of order and cleanliness with Mad Max levels of business regulation and Star Wars cantina levels of diversity.
Won't happen. Something has to give. I vote for regulation of business.

So they are going to shut down all of the minority-owned businesses?
probably the opposite

Wouldn’t existing laws already cover this?

Business has a bit of a crime problem. Business calls cops. Cops don’t show up. Crime problem grows. Business calls cops. Cops don’t show up. Crime problem escalates. Business calls cops. Cops don’t show up. Crime problem explodes. Cops show up, shutter the business. Criminals loot shuttered business. Vagrants squat in looted, shuttered business. Employees lose jobs. City loses business, employees and customers tax revenues. I’ll finish the rest in episode 2
Business stops calling 911 so they stay of criminal activity list for businesses that are victims of criminal activity.
Businesses then move to Jefferson Parish.

How about the city first worry about shutting down the criminals causing the skyrocketing crime in the New Orleans

Right, and even if you think Moreno is well intended with this, look back on the history of N.O. politics.
Aren't the odds likely for this to rapidly become an extremely handy tool in the hands of corrupt politicians and/or police?
While changing nothing about the lawlessness of the city.

its just the precursor for when they deem unvaccinated people criminals for having pure blood

Why hasn’t the Council made any comments about Jason Williams and his inability to bring charges against violent offenders?

I don't think the cars are getting chopped. They mostly joy ride them around to steal other cars and they end up one of three ways 1)Parked at some hood apartments 2)Wrecked and crumpled 3) Hulking burnt pile of steel.
If they were getting chopped they would at least be recycled to a certain extent. Right now they are just getting trashed and dumped.

Y'all are really, really overthinking this.
This is no different than the state pulling an alcohol license if a business has a crime issue, like the state did after that bar shooting in BR a few weeks ago.
DA isn't involved, this is a municipal matter and will go to a city administrative law judge process.
For those of you who think this is going to result in business owners somehow setting up shootings at other busineses... these are the same owners / clients who shoot their guns sideways and film fights in portrait mode.
I don't know if this will accomplish much at all. Maybe it will lead a few of the car washes and corner stores to put up some cameras.

What are some examples of legal businesses that will run the risk of being shut down by this new ordinance?
All of those pesky white, hetero, Christian businesses promoting all that hate crime, intolerance, and phobia du jour.

Ok, but was a new ordinance really necessary for this? Were they just allowing chop shops to remain open before, even though they knew they were chop shops?

Optics. It's all about optics in the media.
"Look, we passed an ordinance..." There is nothing new under the sun, they CAN more strictly enforce current law, but they choose not to, because that gives the elected officials little to do and little to promote themselves.
Can't get campaign contributions and win subsequent elections by enforcing existing legislation.

So many people here claim to care about crime, or at least be disturbed by it, but when Muh Democrat City actually tries something it gets criticized. I think we need to acknowledge the tradeoffs here. You cannot be anti-crime and then get pissy when the cops talk about shutting down your 24-hour coin operated laundry / Kratom shop / fried chicken gas station.
Have they published how they will determine a shutdown is warranted?
