it's a fricking new era Nola restaurant
Keep enjoying Mandinas which hasn't put out a decent dish in decades.
ETA: I really like both High Hat & Ancora; I don't do Boca nearly as often. In the future, I'll just go to Cowbell for all pimento burg needs & elsewhere for pizza.

To each his own. I don’t go to any place that knowingly supports what I’m against.
I tip well bc almost all of my family is in the hospitality industry - and I know how it works. With overhead, food costs, non tipped employees - he charges so much to support his own fat arse. So either boycott or don’t tip - that’s how it affects him.
You are being a special kind of thick skulled on the tip topic.
If you give a shite about service industry folks but want to punish him you don’t go to high hat, order a big meal and not tip, you go to la boca during a busy time and sip a lemonade and leave a huge tip.
That of course makes you ante up your own time and money to make an actual targeted statement... instead of you coming out ahead by putting a server in the crosshairs so you can pat yourself on the back after a whole meal at a reduced price with the missing tip while not actually impacting the owner much (if at all)

He's pissing away money much like Auburn with their new pathetic football hire (that $21+ million buyout will ensure that the Gus Bus won't run out of gas on his leisure trips traveling across America).

Yeah for claiming she knows plenty of people in the service industry, this angle is so strange she is taking.
I don’t understand it at all

I’d never heard this until now. Interesting. Do you go fir the food and ignore the whole behind it?

Yup. If you don’t want to go, don’t go. Nothing wrong with that.
The go but don’t tip angle is some kind of mix of entitled and dumb that unfortunately has real world impact on people that have already had a terrible year.

quote:It's been a really odd stance. A few people not tipping isn't pushing a waiter/waitress at any of those 3 places below minimum wage and forcing Garcia to pay out of pocket. It's just lowering the waiter/waitress take home pay.

Spell check got me. Sorry.
If I know the owner is a complete POS, should I boycott the restaurant when I really like the food?

Going and then punishing employees doesn't make sense.
Employees will have to face the consequences for working for a shitty/unethical entity if business dries up, but that's just part of it and it shouldn't be directed toward them.

Point. If I go, I’ll juice the tip. The staff is taking shite so I can enjoy the food.

For a long time I've been against intentional boycotts, or at least noisy ones. More of a "you don't want me there, I won't go" thing.
But increasingly I think it's valuable for the decent people in this country to stop shying away from being vocal about this sort of stuff. It's not how I'd prefer to handle things, but there are no other forms of accountability. Government and media and other institutions will punish "offensive" conduct by people on the right (rightly or wrongly), but they'll excuse or ignore horrendous behavior from the left, be it heartless attitudes or violence or destruction. If a Republican chef made this sort of comment - it'd be on CNN. Seriously.
Someone has to fill that vacuum or things are going to get even more out of hand. And frankly, if they do, the reactions are going to be a lot worse than putting a guy's business in jeopardy. And I'd prefer to live in a society where we can successfully manage bad people and ideas through laws and the market, etc. rather than the alternatives.
