Sounds like the same group that complains that employees aren’t “loyal” when they leave for a better paying job.

As far as service jobs why would you work in a place that a mayor or governor can shut you down over a virus?

Baw, they shut down medical procedures. Who would want to be a surgeon?

Surgeons for the most part were still working and if not, not shut down long. Service industry in much of the country was shut down for at least a year. I understand what you're saying though.

sounds like you should start your own business. Then you can run it any way you want. But if Jim is your boss, you're probably gonna have to do it Jim's way.

Honestly, I've found this to be true for quite a few people in my industry too (corporate law at a large firm).

And that is fine for Jim. But Jim is going to have trouble keeping employees in today's culture.

Many younger people see where this country is headed and they develop a fatalistic view of their future. And if they think there is nothing to live for, they might adopt an attitude of,” I’m going to enjoy what’s left and not waste time working.”

Cut dividens

Reduce workforce

Cut costs with the people who are left

And if none of that works just get the government to bail you out

*CEO compensation is never cut during all of these steps, of course, worse case he just gets deferred comp*

Lukewarm take - this has nothing to do with work rate or desire to be employed.

I don't have to be employed at a restaurant to not leave a cluster frick of a mess for the people who are there to clean up.

No one should need a job, or a boss, or a god to treat someone else with respect and at bare minimum not create a challenge for someone else who is just living their life.

The real thing here is we don't see each other as the same, we only see each other as "others." Until we can fix that, nothing will be fixed.

Or just find a job where you don’t have to report to that kind of person.

All my bosses at my current company have been family-oriented guys, but there are plenty of Jim-types around here. You just have to maneuver your career around them.
