Why do you think Russia is doing this? And what is your opinion of it? What do you think the consequences are?

Putin is doing this because his popularity was dropping. No way he invades if Russia is a happy prosperous democracy. He's created this war to help secure his spot.

(I see no peaceful "retirement" for Putin. If Russia redevelops a democracy, hell be prosecuted by his own people. He cant truly stepdown.)

Thinking Russia invading Ukraine is because of Joe Biden is ridiculous

It’s bad. Maybe Europe should do something about it. It’s in their backyard.

Well according to Putin it goes back to 1917 Bolsheviks...but I do acknowledge your point.

I’m pretty middle of the road but I don’t think this is a ridiculous thought.

That's a bullshite statement that has no meaning here in the USA because the folks running the USA want the USA to have NO borders and NO national sovereignty.

Putin never got over Yanukovych being booted out.

That is why he is invading Ukraine.

Well, yeah.

When the biggest military threat to your country starts toppling your neighbors' governments, installing their own people, and threatening your military holdings, it tends to stick with you.

And yet, only one side is putting foreign boots on the ground and bombing the country.

I'd love to know how much of Putin's military budget over the last decade has come from Europe signing into the stupid Paris Climate Agreement and becoming dependent on Russia for natural gas.

Stop acting like Ukraine was ever some great military threat to Russia. Never was and never wanted to be I might add. They wanted to align themselves with the West to be sure but they were never going to be a military threat to Russia.

So you truly believe Putin has much greater respect for Joseph Biden than he did for Donald Trump- and it wouldn't have mattered had Trump still been in the White House?

If that's what you're saying, I'll just disagree. We aren't the only ones keeping notes on this administration's blunders...The mistakes made in Afghanistan exposed Biden's team as the novice outfit that they are- and our enemies took note.

So that gives Putin the right to invade Ukraine?

That's not how the world has ever worked. Who has ever had the "right" to invade and conquer? I'm not sure we had the right to take over this continent, yet here we are

In 1917 a bunch of modernized leftists took over Russia. They were very social justice minded, they immediately decriminalized homosexuality (first country in the history of the world to do so), they coined the term racist, they claimed to be an "internationalist" movement that would unite the world in equality and ends all racial, religious, ethnic lines. And indeed many of them in leadership were not ethnically Russian.

Ukraine was already part of the Russian Empire at the time and became a region for the internationalists to use for famines, holocausts and nuclear meltdowns. Until the Internationalist Utopia nation finally crumbled and some other western internationals decided Ukraine should be a sovereign country for the first time ever.

These western internationals then staged an anti Russia coup in Ukraine, militarized it against Russia, brought it into their international community. And Russia really really does not want to be apart of this western international community either. And the craziest thing is they have the same neoliberal social justice language as the first one that ruined them.

You think the current President's track record on foreign policy had nothing to do with Putin's timing of the invasion?

You think Putin bending the current President over and getting everything he wanted and *nothing* in return for the US during the START treaty had nothing to do with Putin's timing of the invasion?

Marxists

This is Putin speak. He put this in people's minds years ago on Twitter and Facebook with his Psyops campaign on the American people. It was used to so discord and fighting among then American people. It worked. Democrats aren't Marxists and Republicans aren't Nazis. But go ahead and keep playing his game. It almost worked on January 6th. It's time to unite and quit the childish name calling. Your future, your kids future, your grandkids future depends on it

One of the most bizarre aspects of this whole thing is how some people in this country have turned into Putin fanboys and started parroting Russian talking points.

It tends to happen when supporting communism has become mainstream, political opponents are being sent to jail, illegal spying can be done without penalty to support and impeachment of a president, and allowing unmitigated nationwide riots supporting Marxist beliefs. “Freedom” is now being associated with facism by these same people.

I agree it’s strange that we got here, but at this point what makes us any better than Russia? The only way to change this is to not vote for the people that treat politics like the Russians.

Not saying that, saying who the US President is at any given time is a very small part of the equation here.
