We usually turn off most the lights downstairs but may or may not get them all. Almost never lock the door. Its so uncommon to come home when no one is there and finding the door locked that I always have to try to remember if I have a key to the damned thing. Our daughter will occasionally lock the door at night but she is also still slightly afraid of the dark. She is also scared of spiders and may still find it hard to sleep after watching a scary movie. I don't know why anyone would live anywhere that required locking one's self in at night. I would move if I thought it was needed. If folks or wild animals or whatever it is you're locking out are commonly getting in unlocked doors why in the frick would you stay?

Why would I lock the doors? If I lock the doors, the intruders can't come inside the house where I can shoot them.

Check that the doors are locked , take my crestor and check the safety on my equalizer, turn off the lamp, tell the wife , no pics, good night.

Perimeter sweep, check searchlights, check weapons, their beaten zones, and do a test fire, commo check w supporting arty and CAS, inspect Claymores and tripwires, check GSR, inspect razor wire and the tin cans hanging in it, post an OP, and go to bed.

I’m in BR with no alarm and nice house. I do lock the doors though. There are enough old retirees watching the streets that I feel pretty safe.

I close the garage before bed most of the time and turn off any exterior lights. I have not turned the alarm on, locked the doors or the car in 19 years.No problems so far.

Sorry, this is nothing against you, but more of what I see in this thread.
Crimes such as home invasion and property theft has dropped over 60% since I was a kid/teen in the 70's and 80's, yet we always slept with the door unlocked.
It amazes me that GenXers, who were raised wild, became the most afraid generation of them all. Helicopter parents who are afraid to sleep without locked doors when it is much, much safer, on average today, than when we were kids. I guess 24/7 cycle of fear news does that. I do not consume that.

make sure the garage is closed. eyeball the kitchen porch door to make sure it's locked. head to bedroom. hope cat doesn't attack me.

Check doors, make sure outside lights are off and dogs go on night watch. Not worried about a thing.

I go to bed shortly after 9pm. GF lets the dog out then comes in 2-3 hours later. About 20% of the time the front or back door are unlocked when I get up around 5am.

Take the dogs out, make sure exterior lights are on, lock the doors, turn off all lights, turn on the alarm, place gun and mag on nightstand. Just me and the wife. No little ones.

I still check the locks when I head to bed 30 minutes or so after her and turn the hall light off that she leaves on for me.

As far as locking up the house, I am terrible at it. And I have never set our alarm. I assume it works.
