I saw a video on YouTube of a guy attaching a GoPro to the end of a fishing line while he was on a cruise in the Caribbean during a “sea day”. He did two cast, one during the day and one at night. During the day, it was typically schools of fish, where as the one he did at night had multiple great white Sharks swimming around in the dark. Just seeing their reflecting eyes under the dark water…frick that. When I saw that he jumped(or fell) at night, this is the first thing I thought of.

Treading water until you slowly get tired and drown alone in the middle of a dark Ocean might be the worst way to die. And at that point your body becomes an easy meal for the sharks. I would rather burn to death.

If it was me, I'd have been afraid of getting sucked under the boat. That's the only thing I can think of.

I'm not sure what the rumors are but I was there and my kid was on the boat with him. This has been a terrible unfortunate accident in which a young man I really liked made a bad decision like I have many times but this one unfortunately cost him. There was no dare, in which you can place blame on anyone but the Cam. I wish it wasn't so but it is. So while all of you on here are saving the world in one hingsight post after another if you want to do something productive, remind your kids of exactly what is on the line each and every day we walk out the door and to RESPECT what is out there and try to prepare them as best as you can. I'm not saying this wasn't done by Cam's parents because I know that it was, I am saying that we must be relentless in teaching our kids that this life is not guaranteed. I will miss you kid.

Condolences. I am so lucky to have not killed others or myself with some of the things I have done.

No bc I have not watched any video, but I do know the area and sadly I would assume the sea took him. And that is very kind of you, but I will say that any parent that was there and knew him are sadly greatful that their child were not the one who did it and are absolutely hurting for his family.

How do you propose he do that? Provide a far clearer video with better lighting?

Can we also start teaching our kids about the dangers of alcohol? Everyone seems to be gliding over the alcohol factor in this thread. I know drinking is embedded in our culture but how about we start teaching AND showing kids that it’s not everything. You can have fun without drinking. I’m not sure what’s happened in the last few decades but you can’t go anywhere or do anything without alcohol being present. A child’s birthday party at 10am on a Saturday & there’s an ice chest full of beer. Watched my kids dance recital last weekend and they were serving alcohol in the theater. This is insane.

Would this kid have jumped off the boat if he were sober? Maybe, maybe not but I would guess things may have turned out differently if alcohol weren’t involved.

This story + the death of that young man stuck in the Alaskan mud a few days previously have made me quite sad.

So sad that I'm reaching out to a couple of trusted friends.

Both of those young guys had horrific endings and I feel badly for all involved.

Cherish each day.

Maturity is a big part of dealing with alcohol, hence why drinking age limits exist. Parents letting their underage kids drink are part of the problem. Teenagers do stupid enough things not under the influence of alcohol.

Not sure if this kid had been drinking, but the general point stands.

I disagree. The vast majority of adults don’t have the maturity to handle alcohol. Hell many can’t even establish appropriate times & places to drink.

I’d much rather my kid drink under my supervision than anyone else’s. But more importantly teach her that alcohol is just as dangerous as drugs.

He was 18 with a ton of booze around. Remember the first time (or one of the first few times) you were around unlimited booze and got really fricked up. I figure he was because he thought it was a good idea to jump off a boat into the ocean.

Now remember how fricked up you were when you got hammered at 18 and imagine being in the ocean at night in the waves with bright lights from a boat way above shining in your eyes. You wouldn’t have a clue what was going on.

Early in this thread, someone posted that their brother was there and took video, and said it was a suicide. Which sounded absolutely ridiculous. I'm assuming that has been proven false?

Unfortunately this is another casualty of the TikTok/Social media era we live in. Kids, and adults, do stupid shite every day for likes/follows/clicks. Social media is a cancer on society.

This kid is 18 years old and nobody ever told him "If someone told you to jump off a bridge, would you do it?" Anybody with a lick of common sense would know that jumping off a cruise ship into the sea is not the same as jumping off a diving board into a pool.

"accidently fell" or "intentionally jumped"?

So he jumped off a boat at night while drunk to live? Carpeing those diems for sure.

I don't know him or his family; I don't know how he was raised or how much money his family has. Inebriation had more to do with his poor decision making than anything else. Most definitely tragic how a split-second decision resulted in his death.
