NYC is terrible. I absolutely loathe driving through it every time we travel up to Massachusetts. It’s basically just 300 square miles of concrete and minorities.

we moved from nola to just outside Philly a year ago. considering a job in Manhattan now. looks like with even a 60k bump in pay it wouldn't make financial sense. looked at a 100/year old house on long island today, 1500 sq ft, 50 min train ride to work, $900k... i love ny but damn...

Not really. I'd say it's lower than most major cities I've been to. Houston and SF were the worst on a daily basis.
The only time I really encounter them is in the subway. Subways a pretty amazing way to travel across the city quickly.

i've experienced NYC as a tourist and as a local. paying $1300 for a studio apartment is not worth the trouble of getting to say you live in NYC.

$1300? Where was that? I was paying more than that for a 1 BR in midtown Houston

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Vienna. For scenery though, Salzburg is unrivaled imo.
