Everything about Manhattan is amazing. The logistics of getting goods and services on the island in itself is unreal. You never see big 18 wheeler in Manhattan.
It was the first vertical city. As impressive as the obvious architecture above, the subway and tunnels carved below the city is the real technological marvel.
Whenever I have to go there for business, I carve out a day for me to just to go exploring. Typically I will buy a day pass on the subway, catch a train, and exit whenever the mood hits me.
Little Italy, Chinatown, The Bowery, Soho, The village, midtown, uptown, downtown, etc etc -- so much to absorb. So many different types of food.
I always enjoy these threads. It is very easy to spot the uneducated, inbred fricks that must be miserable to be around.

Well I was born and raised in Nola and still live there. I've also been to NYC probably 30 times. It's an unbelievable place. It's so close to new Orleans yet so far away. It's incredible. Something that has to be truly experienced to understand

Been there and it is great to visit but I couldn’t imagine living there. Blows my mind that people are born, raised and die having never owned a home with a yard or a car. To always live in a high rise apartment, never go hunting or fishing and never jump in your car for a Sunday Drive is such a different way of life that it is inconceivable to me.
I understand that it is just a different lifestyle but then your typical NYC’er comes along and says anyone that doesn’t live like them is a “redneck uneducated boob” and it reminds me why I wouldn’t live there.

A good bit of my co-workers have cars and houses in Queens or nearby areas. Plenty of cars around the city.

Well you're pretty uneducated on this subject it seems. I don't think you know a "typical NYC'er" if there even is such a thing.
Amazing that in a city with a metro of a pretty diverse 20 million people that you were able to pin them down to that. Seems a bit hypocritical based on your complaint, no?

I agree with all of that. New York is the melting pot that Nola wishes it was. (and I'm a NOLA native). Its a weird mixture of people that are meaner and people that you hope to spend more time with. It legit cannot be explained

I've been to NY a lot for interviews in college, and I HATED it. People are rude, smells like piss everywhere, can't have a car or motercycle. Impossible to save. Good thing gun ownership is illegal there, or I'd shoot myself.

I don’t know if it’s the greatest, but NYC is pretty amazing. So many diverse things to see and do and the public transportation amazes me. If you can’t find something you like when visiting, you have to be a miserable person.

It’s absolutely hilarious. It’s the same group of people that hate California for political reasons only, yet they live in the poorest, most uneducated states in our nation.
I haven’t yet been to London or Paris, but New York is without a doubt the greatest city I’ve ever visited.
