People are real suckers for shiny trinkets. They'll pay nearly double what a base model cost for a fancier interior and shiney rims.

Yep, I find it funny, they put a few hundred dollars of tech in a vehicle, and charge $10K more for it and people pay it. It's been great for manufacturers.

Basically every continous duty diesel engine on the planet is turbocharged, many with multiple stages.

There have been turbocharged piston aircraft engines since at least the 1940s, very reliable, don’t know why auto manufacturers have so much trouble with turbocharged gasoline engines.

Because they have to value engineer to a price point that is lower than an airplane or heavy equipment. Consumer grade.

This had always been the case in the automotive industry.

Oh NOZ!!!! The infotainment is….DATED!!!!!!!

Don’t understand the fascination with touchscreens, have a 2016 Tundra, having to make multiple touches to kill the screen at night is annoying. Just give me a radio with some knobs and buttons.

18 wheelers have had turbos for forever.

And the turbocharger was/is one of the most failure-prone parts on them. Now they are only the third-most since DEF/PF systems are where the big money is being spent on repairs to OTR trucks.

Turbos for passenger cars/trucks are a much different animal than in heavy duty applications, they are subjected to higher thermal stress and stricter control systems so they are more complex and have a higher failure rate.

Ever wonder why they decided to paint cars to a high shine and gloss, instead of something that won't look so old so fast? Why would we decide on a soft, mirror finish for something we hurtle through the world at 80 mph with all the debris, bugs, trucks, etc?

People generally get rid of their cars when they start to "look" old when they still run fine.

The pre-2022 Tundras lacked all the bells and whistles that the other manufacturers have incorporated. The touch screen in the pre-2022 models looks like something from a subcompact.

Like I have said before, these idiots are buying a truck for all the wrong reasons.

I'm holding onto my 2011 for a while longer. It only has about 75k on it so I figure it will last a while longer.

Other than oil changes and tires it's cost me nada in repairs.

That’s why you don’t buy a 60-70k vehicle. I can’t believe people pay more than 45k for something that depreciates.

Good luck with that

The less tech the better imo, my gripe is sitting on a 5-gallon bucket is more comfortable than the drivers seat in the 2020 Tundra. Add to that the auto dim/bright headlights - shite drives me crazy.

A lot of military, and aircraft electronics have "tactile" controls, you can tell what the contol is set to, and change settings just by "feel", electronics in vehicles should be the same.

Subaru seems to be able to put out new turbocharged engines without too much drama.

They had head gasket issues for a long time. And all of them are mated to a CVT now.

They didn't do anybody any favors with their cheating the system. It made it much harder for the other companies to get a vehicle thru the testing. Which in turn makes it more expensive for the consumer.

frick VW and their cheating culture.
