I have the 2014. On third transmission. Just hit 100k miles. On my own now. $2k per transmission. Trying to hold out to see what GM puts out in the subcompact truck market…

Lived in Malaysia. Had the Hilux. Good truck.

Is everything simply plug-n-play electronics now?
Mostly. There are some mechanical interfaces like you noted but they are not major, and its easier to unhook those and rip the cab off than it is to remove and replace parts that are up against the firewall and stuff.
I dont work in that industry but I've been told you can rip a cab off of some new trucks in as little as 2 hours and reinstall in 4.

quote:It's like this on the new model semi's as well - horrible horrible ideas that do zilch to help fuel economy. Before I got sick I had a 2021 Freightliner Cascadia that would have the transmission coast when it senses an incline ending because we all know every incline leads to a direct decline, right? There's no possible way there's another climb ahead or perhaps its just a bit of a leveling out on the side of a mountain. Its a blast pulling 40k lbs up a hill then suddenly losing all power and momentum because of this "technology". A semi shifting into neutral going up a hill is just fricking stupid - thanks Bush/Obama for the wonderful EPA guidelines yall imposed.
This is 100% brought to you by your federal government. They are eking out tiny percentages wherever they can to improve their CAFE numbers. That's why your engine turns off at stop lights. It's why your 10 speed automatic transmission is always aiming to stay at "idle." It's why we're twin-turbo charging sub-2.0 liter motors. None of it is really about what the customer wants. It is 100% about government regulation, and how the car performs on the EPA fuel economy test loop. frick how it actually is to live with.

New Tundra already having turbo issues?
Just go down to the shop and get Hector to put NOS on it

I love my 2021 Tundra. I’d be scared to get the 22 just because it’s a new design all the way through.
The pre-2022 Tundras lacked all the bells and whistles that the other manufacturers have incorporated. The touch screen in the pre-2022 models looks like something from a subcompact.
I generally like what they've done (with the exception of getting rid of the V-8), but you still wait a year OR TWO so that they can work out the bugs.

I like my 21, but yeah, it looks dated compared to others. If they had put the V8 in the 22, I would upgrade probably.

Turbos are for fun and economy...not for longevity and durability.
We have more than one 18 wheeler at work with over 400,000 miles on them. they have turbos.
I put 150,000 miles on my first ecoboost and traded it in with no issues. They will last as long as they are taken care of just like anything else.

18 wheelers have had turbos for forever.

I have 60,000 miles on my 5.0 and have had no issues with it.
I do miss my last ecoboost truck though. It had way more power down low for towing.

I know. This is my point.

Appears to be only happening on the SR5.
Isn't this roughly 85% of all Tundras?

Meanwhile, my 2007 Tundra V8 is still going strong.

I would feel great about the cab being removed and reinstalled on my brand new truck.
0% change of new squeaks and rattles, 100% chance all wires and hose are re-connected correctly.

The world is full of fricking idiots who didn't buy a tundra solely because the interior was dated.
People are real suckers for shiny trinkets. They'll pay nearly double what a base model cost for a fancier interior and shiney rims.

Toyota is a fantastic company and any reliability or safety issues they have will be very promptly rectified. The new tundra will still be the most reliable truck on the road.
Except when they ignore safety defects until sued into correcting them. They have a considerable history of ignoring and hiding defects to save their reputation, they are nowhere near the same standard they had in the 1990's to early 2000's and neither is Honda.
