Weird seeing a brand new Tundra with the cab off for a major repair. Very Ford-esq.

Apparently they are having turbo issues. Anyone with the new Tundra yet? I kind of want the hybrid model but the new turbo engine seems a little questionable.

They have to take it off the frame to get to the turbos?

THIS is why you always wait a year or two when a manufacture does a major rebuild/change to a long-standing model, i.e., let them work out the bugs and kinks.

Never. Buy. A. First. Year. Model.

I don't care if it's from the Jesus Motor Company.

And yes, Turbos are adding stress/heat/complexity to all these motors.

I'm going to hang onto my naturally aspirated motors for as long as possible. Turbos are for fun and economy...not for longevity and durability.

Turbochargers are basically as old of tech as combustion engines are. It blows my mind that basically every new architecture of turbocharged engine from every manufacturer has turbocharger issues.

That said, it isn't exactly odd to see some lemons out of such a drastically new design. Toyota is certainly the last manufacturer id be worried about when it comes to design and build quality.

You probably don't HAVE to, but it likely saves total repair time. Cab coming off isn't all that huge of a deal anymore.

Stick with a good ole V8. Stop putting that turbo BS V6 in a truck.

That’s why you don’t buy a 60-70k vehicle. I can’t believe people pay more than 45k for something that depreciates.

Basically every continous duty diesel engine on the planet is turbocharged, many with multiple stages.

Toyota quality has gone down ever since they started making them in the U.S.

Hasn’t the Tundra always been made in the US?

I love my 2021 Tundra. I’d be scared to get the 22 just because it’s a new design all the way through.

The big tundra was always made here IIRC.

Its just first year model growing pains. Every vehicle has them. Toyota is just really good about sticking with what they've already vetted out. Its why the tundra was unchanged for so long and has such a great reputation.

Toyota is a fantastic company and any reliability or safety issues they have will be very promptly rectified. The new tundra will still be the most reliable truck on the road.

4Runners are made in Japan which is one reason I prefer them. It’s not a pickup though obviously.
