It reads like this is a thread about the state of Mississippi wanting a bridge across the state.

I think most people will be able to figure it out though.

Biggest problem on that bridge is the exits around it. Heading into BR, you basically neck down to one lane on I10. It's technically 2, but when that right lane becomes an exit only, you have all of I10 from the west necked down to a single lane on a narrow bridge/elevated road. Fix that and I think you fix a large portion of the issues.

True. But it's like a huge funnel at the bridge. Anytime there is a wreck...Baton Rouge is brought to its knees.

Incorrect. The TIMED Program, which funded the bridge as well as several other projects was funded by a portion of the gas tax and bond sales.

The bridge you speak of was part of the TIMED program passed by the legislature and voted on by the people. It was paid for by a 4 cent gas tax.

"The TIMED (Transportation Infrastructure Model for Economic Development) Program was a $5.2 billion transportation infrastructure program designed to increase economic development in Louisiana by investing in transportation improvement projects. The program began in 1989 when voters approved a 4¢/gallon tax on gasoline to fund the projects designated by Act 16 of the 1989 Louisiana legislature. The TIMED program included widening over 500 miles of state highways to four lanes on 11 project corridors, widening and/or new construction on three major bridges, and improvements to both the Port of New Orleans and Louis Armstrong International Airport."

Do you realize what WBR property values would do if they could solve the clusterfrick that is the bridge?

Rick and his buddies are probably sitting on land.

I'd imagine the bridge would be put in Iberville Parish

They don't need to replace the current bridge

There needs to be a new bridge north of plaquemine with an exit at Grosse Tete connected by an elevated highway that connects back to I-10 N of Prarieville

They could even loop it back N to connect to I-12

WBR landowners have been sitting on land for decades now. This is nothing new.

Why didn't the west bank boom when the new bridge open? It didn't boom because the landowners held onto the land.

My point still stands. Housing is so cheap over there because you're basically held hostage at times because of the bridge.

If traffic could flow more freely you'd see residential expansion (commercial would follow) like LP and Ascension experienced.

The Timed program basically ignored the BR metro area and its traffic problems.

Because it was a state wide vote rural areas got theirs, NO got theirs and BR basically got the shaft.

I would absolutely support a toll and tax, it’s easy, let me help the stoopidz.... You tax the populace who will benefit from it the most, using a property tax. And those who pay that tax are given Swamp Passes, which allow you to freely transverse the new bridge with two vehicles per household. The rest of those fricking 18 wheelers and assholes from Texas pay at the Horace J. New Bridge toll booths beginning... as fast as we can build toll booths, then at the new new bridge once it’s built.

There has been a great deal of neighborhoods develop the last few years. Especially great for plant workers who work on that side of the river. The big box stores haven't come yet...but I think its inevitable.

Any plan is pissing in the wind unless you give I-12 truck traffic an expedient bypass of the BR metro area. The "new" bridge is so land locked on the east bank bc of asinine planning with no forethought, another river crossing HAS to be part that bypass plan. Upgrade old bridge like the Huey P in Harahan.

The other problem is the haz mat truck traffic has to come up Nicholson from 30 to cross west, solve that while were at it.

Why make five parishes foot the whole bill for a new highway system that serves the southern US and southern Louisiana?

frickING THIS!! why not just make it a privately funded toll road? let a private investor do it and charge to use it. If that's possible.

Out of three proposed mega projects, they should prioritize them in this order: 1) loop, 2) widen interstate, 3) new bridge. I personally find the new bridge a waste being that the bridge there currently is plenty wide and it isn't that old.

I couldn't agree more with this. If we can't have a loop, I'd settle for mandatory PSA commercials teaching the public how to handle various situations we encounter on our roadways on a daily basis. The public needs continuing education hours to keep up their driver's license.
