There's no good way for 800,000 people to pay for $1,000,000,000 bridge.

Every man, woman, and child in the country needs to put forth $3 to make this happen.

What about the 20k cars that come through every 24hrs and make them pay 2 bucks for the entire length?

edit: I am being extremely conservative on the estimated cars.

What a jackass. I-10 runs from Los Angeles all the way to Jacksonville, Florida. Every state I-10 runs through should be chipping in for this.

That's the kind of parochial thinking
well i think it is more of the whole state should be funding it, not just a 3 parish region who wont "use" it.

There is zero benefit to I12 if there is a southern loop.

People are not driving to New Orleans via I12. People are not going to drive through New Orleans to bypass I12. Thats the very point of I12 to bypass New Orleans.

So asking people that only use I12 to pay for it is absurd.

So why ask LP to pay for something when they benefit no more than St Helena or St Tammany who dont have to pay.

That's like saying people don't take I-30 to Shreveport from Dallas so why to build the northern facet of Bush Turnpike in DFW.

A loop allows multiple entries and exit points for traffic while reducing the load in the artery through downtown.

You can phase in a northern section after the southern section of the loop is built and ~80% paid for.

I agree with that, but there are other practical uses for such an authority if organized correctly.

A regional transit authority could and should be used to fill the leadership vacuum that exists in the area. Establish plans with regional scope and help present a united front in the legislature.

Its nothing like that actually..

Why are these 4 parishes targets for a tax?

Did the people of Tyler pay for the I30?

But you want people that live 60 miles away to pay for this bridge?

While you have people in other parishes that live closer to BR that will not be taxed.

So in your world view, we should allow only the individual districts that are directly impacted pay for only their phase of the project?

And in your mind, keeping people in their silos like that this will produce a better outcome?

I am not for a tax. Place a toll road in sections like we do here.

Do you realize ETX is not flat and bridges are built along these roads?

Yes, but not bridges that cross a river that is 3200 feet wide and provide 140+ feet of vertical clearance.

The tax is my problem

I dont care if they want a loop and put tolls on it. But its BS to make people pay property tax for things claiming they are being taxed because its addresses their issue when that line of reasoning doesnt hold true.

So the entire state paid 400m for a bridge in St Francisville for a few hundred cars to cross.

But 4 parishes will foot the bill for tens of thousands to cross. I must be taking crazy pills.
