It's not normal and if your going to be a drug user, you should accept a certain level of risk and the possibility of death.
Understanding this and accepting it is what gets most people off of drugs.

I just don't get it
this is after my time, a lot of the xanax and "oxy" on the market was fake pressed pills. I was never into pills but around it enough.
These opperations aren't clean enough. Read the Amongst the bros book about the college of charleston frat drug tade, they had dudes renting beach houses to press thousands of pills in a weekend. Then moved them to various SEC/ACC schools. It is easy to see how a table for "oxy" and "xanax" gets mixed up.
The book is great, one of the dudes got started selling because a wookie at Widespread panic show gave him acid to sell.
my guess is dudes were hungover from a weekend of coke and booze, then took some fake xanax on sunday. Doesn't make sense to OD from coke this long later.

It's more tightening the restrictions on prescribing opiates to retarded levels than "outlawing" them. But, in many ways, it's illegal to prescribe them without a ton of red tape and oversight.
