Eta: Sometimes truth is stranger than fiction with a african Roman emperor conquering big chunks of Britain.

This is him…

I’ll let you draw your own conclusions as to his ethnic background.

He was born in what is modern day Libya to Roman parents. There was never a black Caesar as Caesar had to be Roman. There were 4 Caesar’s born in Africa but all were born to Roman parents and would not have been black - more Mediterranean in complexion.

Septimus was African but his parents were Roman and Phoenician, not black. That’s like trying to say Elon is black.

You'll notice I also said he was an african Roman Emperor, not black.

That said I have read very little in the way of Roman history to lead me to think that skin color played a big part in one's life trajectory in Roman culture.

They were arguably bigger slavers than the US ever was but of all nationalities and ethnic groups, particularly those who they recently conquered.

I'm surprised that the BBC is still in business and is operating.

Right, but it’s the subtleties like this that people skim over and then pass along incorrectly as fact. You knew what you were doing.

During imperial times "Roman" wasn't an ethnic designation though. A black person could be a Roman citizen.

What a perfectly skewed take on this video to get the OT BAWS revved up.

The leftist propaganda narrative in this piece by English Heritage is blatant. They write a piece about Septimius Severus, showing multiple busts and paintings contemporary to his time which show he is obviously of Mediterranean heritage. But they end the piece with this modern painting of him..

English-Heritage.org

There is a concerted effort to rewrite the history of Western Civilization. I know the comparison of modern society to Orwell’s 1984 is used more and more often today. But that’s because with each passing day it becomes more and more obvious that’s exactly what’s happening.

There is no argument. The Romans were bigger slavers than the United States.

Arguably?

This part I find interesting. What part of the Roman empire was not Roman?
Being a Roman citizen didn't mean you were born in Rome, or even that your parents were born in Rome. Neither was that a requirement to be in the equestrian class or even the Senate.

The point that Rome was bigger slavers than the US isn’t arguable. It’s estimated that at the height of the Roman Empire, up to 30% of the people living under Roman rule were slaves.
