Arguably?

I am sure you could with little effort find someone who says the US was the largest slaver in world history.

Fun truths to chew on.

#1 Britan was a colony of Rome for what 800 years, while many toffee nosed Englishmen are loath to admit this, DNA testing would show the dark Italian bold courses through their vein.

#2 The Scots were probably the only civilization that made the Romans fearful, so much so that Emperor Hadrian built a wall to keep them contained. Scots would be less prone than the bloody English to have Italian blood.

#3 When the Spanish Armada was beaten, very few ships were lost in battle. They turned North (navigating around Ireland) where the vast majority of men and ships were lost at sea. Many went overboard and washed ashore in Ireland and their descendants can be noticed in "Black Irish" today.

While modern Brits love to claim their Anglo Saxon past, many are blood descendants of the "black" Italians and Spanish.

The point that Rome was bigger slavers than the US isn’t arguable. It’s estimated that at the height of the Roman Empire, up to 30% of the people living under Roman rule were slaves.

The number is hard to quantify. The Romans didn’t turn all conquered people into slaves. Administration would be inefficient. In fact, the Roman expansion was palatable bc the Romans didn’t really care about your customs or traditions. Pay your taxes and you’re protected. Lol

The majority of the slaves I imagine were already slaves when they were conquered. Traitors, deserters, orphans. Children of slaves. Some people even sold their children to pay off debts.

ETA: but yes Slavery under the Roman Empire was considerably larger

I could also easily find someone who says Cleopatra was black and the earth is flat.

Doesn’t make them correct.

Well, dna testing says that’s not true. There were some black migrants, I’m sure but black people weren’t the first and only race like we were taught.

The children’s music video you linked simply gives examples of the existence of some Black people living in Europe from Roman times. Were you making water cooler conversation, misleading them with shiny race baited hooks, or upset when movies like Gladiator and Robin Hood Prince of Thieves depicted the existence of Black people in Europe also?

Nobody's arguing that black people weren't in Europe at all, but they definitely weren't the noble class, leading nations etc. as how it's being depicted now. They were slaves and servants if they were there at all, and there weren't many.

The USA wasn't even the biggest contemporary slaver. That would be Brazil

Probably closer to 350 years considering Roman invasion of Britain was 43 AD and by 410 the Roman garrison had left Britain.

So your position is that people from northern Africa = sub-saharan Africa?

No, my position is that an african Roman emperor conquered big chunks of Britain.
