I’m a waver as I drive, walk, work in the yard, etc. I notice most people wave back but others totally ignore the wave. I suspect it is because some drivers just stare ahead and don’t use their peripheral vision very much.

I was thinking about this the other day. I live in a pretty sprawling neighborhood and walk a lot. More than half the drivers passing wave. I was thinking about how a New Yorker or the like would respond to the congeniality of it all. They'd probably be thinking WTF are you waving at!?!

It puts a smile on my face that people are still kind for the most part.

I just wave at neighbors and people I know anyways. I don't really even look to see if they wave back.

I wave sort of. If they don't respond I don't care.

I do it in traffic sometimes too. Some demographics seem to be less inclined to acknowledge a wave than others in my experience.

I live in the last house on the Cul da Sac. I always wave to everyone. Lots of older folks with a couple families with children mixed in. My closest two neighbors are middle aged men who never wave or hardly acknowledge me or my wife. I’m ok with it because they keep to themselves and are quiet. The older folks almost break a hip to wave back.

I still wave. Most wave back....Some give me a kinda surprised smile like they didn't expect it. Maybe if more waves were waved, society might not be quite so bad. For those who don't like the wave, I don't give a frick!

Wave or not wave based on what you want to do

Not because what others want you to do

That said- it’s always nice to wave

If I see a neighbor who I know while driving, I will wave. If I'm in my front yard, I wave to most people who pass by driving. If we're on a family walk, we wave to everyone who passes by (in vehicles or walking). I would say 90%+ people wave back, if they don't they are probably just some douche driving through our neighborhood to try to avoid red lights on the main street near our neighborhood (which we are attempting to curb by getting speed bumps install on our street).

I always wave. No need to raise any suspicions with the walkers and bikers. I also go super slow by them. I rarely wave at cars unless possibly at a stop sign. Also my kids have these same exact instructions. I know this from experience.

Moved in a new neighborhood recently and noticed the same. I waved the first couple times and now I just ignore everyone.

Only two neighbors introduced themselves to me. One was to ask if my internet was out and the other was to make sure I knew where the property line was.

Bunch of pricks all around.

Neighborhoods were central to American greatness, people lived there for decades, built businesses, returned after graduation etc.

That doesn't exist anymore. We're all strangers and nomadic.

This is why America is going downhill in most cases
