You cannot worry about what other people do, although I feel you, and wave if you want to wave or feel like it is the courteous thing to do. I am with you, I think it proper to wave, and I am sure it is frustrating, but continue to do the right thing because it is the right thing to do. No more reason is needed than that.

we live in a town that used to be small and I waved at everyone. Now we are not a small town and I wave at cars that look like cars owned by friends. I would rather wave at a stranger than not wave at someone I know.

Seems like many neighborhoods have changed as culture changes. People in my neighborhood as a kid were super friendly. Now they are just a’holes.

I’m sure there were plenty of assholes around back then. Things just seem safer and friendlier when you are a kid.

I split the difference. I just nod without really making eye contact. It’s how I acknowledge they them without getting too chummy

We live out in the country northeast of Knoxville and we wave.

When my inlaws lived in west Knoxville in a subdivision with all the wonderful things there I was working on her flower beds and I waved at five neighbors who drove by. None waved back. I guess they assumed I was hired help. FT.

I never do a full wave anymore.
I like to put my fingers together and raise my hand like I'm telling someone to stop and do a slight head nod with a lips clenched smile.

My question is.... if you leave your house and wave at them and realize you forgot your phone and have to turn around, you pass him/her again (do you wave again?). And once you get your phone, you have to pass them again (do you wave again or act like you are looking for something on your seat?)

Is this common courtesy no longer a thing in society? Kind of sad.

More prevalent with blacks i find and I live in the sticks as well. It’s weird. The old black people out here will wave and say hi. The younger ones not so much. Males are worse than females. When I hold the door open for black women or say good
Morning to them, they are effusive and polite. But the young black guys are more aloof if I say hello.

But they will say thanks if I hold a door open while we’re walking into a building.

I’d expect it in the city, but not out here.

Waving and handshakes were started to show the other tribes you bring no weapon to attack them with.

The little butthole kids must be packin'.
