Yep, standardized tests are very important in our society. Everyone takes the same ACT or SAT and students from different schools can be evaluated. We all know a school like Jesuit New Orleans isn’t the same as Tara High School Baton Rouge.

I probably can't do some of my high school math anymore.

I took advanced math all through high school. I bet I forgot some of that stuff.

Getting rid of testing for admissions has its drawbacks

HS math varies, are we talking 2+2 or advanced trig?

At least Geometry and Algebra I’d assume. High School grades are a joke today. All schools need to require ACT/SAT again.

If I had a son today, I would not strongly encourage him to go to college unless he was looking at some type of STEM field. I would encourage him to get some type of a skill such as electrician or plumber and go to a community college for an associates in business so that once he becomes a master plumber or electrician he could start his own business and know a little something of how that should work.

I dated someone that went to UCSD, despite the uni's ranking/selectivity/reputation as a school for nerds, I was surprised by how average most students were

Don’t let the DEI leftist education policies off the hook too. States like California decided it was more important to create social activist over educating kids on math, science, reading, etc. Remember the leftist saying math is racist? This was always their goal

COVID lockdowns didn’t help, but I think the main difference is the elimination of SAT scores.

How is it LA, MS, AL constantly gets thrown under the bus as last in education, yet we routinely see stories like this from Baltimore, Illinois, California, Philadelphia, etc?

Not saying we haven't always been at the bottom, but it's not like all of the students from the other 47 States are rocket scientists.

Because we are the ONLY group of humans that are allowed to be openly slandered. (but you're not allowed that any potential lower numbers could come from minority Southern residents.)

This actually is the craziest part.

UCSD is a Top 25 school.

Imagine these percentages at LSU, ULL, Ole Miss, Southern, etc.

The reason we know this is mostly because of the academic integrity of the UCSD faculty wanting to track this and not being afraid to show the data.
The entire no test based admissions process has led to unprepared freshman coming in and probably prepared being left. 2 years ago UCSD claimed to have the most applicants in the country
What I didn’t know until recently is that UCSD has 8 separate colleges, some have much more rigorous core curriculum. Revelle is the toughest.

I taught at UCSD while working on my post graduate degree. A high percentage of the students were upper middle class to quite wealthy kids from the affluent areas of the North County to Orange County.

In those days, the freshman classes were filled with kids that had gone to good surburban high schools where they received all As for completing the assignments. They often flipped out and called their "important" parents when they failed their first college paper.

That just proves how the rankings are stupid and bs . It’s academia that votes on it not real world business
