I think the term narcissist is way over used to be honest

sometimes it is just good old fashioned egotism and arrogance

Agreed…it seems to be trendy on the internet currently.

FWIW, I feel no anger, hate, etc for those in my past.

I feel only pain and empathy that they hold the key to their wellness and fail to use it. So many die unhappy and alone when the exact opposite could have been their life path.

The cycle is the worst thing. Plenty of people cannot get out and if someone does … then that person is thought ill of.

There is nothing more overdiagnosed than “narcissism”.

Everyone believes that their ex was a narcissist.

The prevalence of narcissism is ~1%, maybe 2%.

There are only about 3-6 million narcissists in all of the USA, in a population of 350 million people, and that is if we don’t subtract people from the pool based on other factors.

Y’all must all know the same people.

Scruffy knows zero people with the narcissistic personality trait.

I wonder how many narcissists are also drug addicts/alcoholics as opposed to "normal" people?

Most with mental health issues "self medicate" in one form or another. We spend BILLIONS on treatment for the self medication and peanuts on fixing the actual cause. While many NPD's self medicate with drugs (OTC, prescription, and illegal) there are some (like Hitler) who are the exact opposite.

This is the South, mental illness may or may not be more common here, but as we are tight knit by family, friends, and faith. It is just harder to hide and way easier to gossip about.

This is what I miss about the Catholic faith I grew up immersed in. Fear of God & Faith went hand in hand with those nuns who set me on this pat5h and did not allow me to go down the other path.

PS, with 6 kids, I am guessing you are already on the path to sainthood!

That's because they would need to self diagnose themselves and seek help. And one of their personality traits is they have ZERO self awareness and would never consider the issue to be them. Also, narcissist have a pleasant, likeable personality in public so most people would never know. Scuffy would need to be in a relationship of some kind with one to know one. You are lucky you haven't had to deal with that. Trust me.

These types of lists are trash. The psychology equivalent of "10 signs you might have cancer".

Everyone has had narcisstic feelings, tendencies, or actions at some point in their lives, even if they don't realize it.

I told the ex to fark herself and left. Great decision. Highly recommend. These folks will never change because it's everyone else's fault but there's.

In general if you're dealing with someone like this, you need to consider if it's worth the relationship. Because you're unlikely to change the person. More often than not, you will only end up miserable. True narcissists are incapable of change, because they believe they are perfect already. Even if they show some signs of remorse, they will likely go back to their old habits.

Why they are hardest to treat.

If you have followed my posts on here, this is the poster child.
He is not a good businessman
He is not a good politician
He is the perpetual victim
He does have anger issues

He does have a "public" personality that is not the same in "private"
He can be charming and charismatic in public

If you are old enough to remember "A Face in the Crowd", it was art that now has come full circle in life.

I have to deal with 3 people with this on a regular basis. Ive learned how over the years to deal better with this. Mostly, it's just understanding the condition and avoidance.

There are reasons and there are excuses. Come to me with reasons and we’ll talk.
