Worst frickin people on earth. Best defense is ignoring their attempts to get a rise out of you. Give them no ammo, absolutely no info or detail about your life of any interests you may have. Be very vanilla and boring. They will move on to someone else they can control and manipulate to get their way. Knew a guy that was full blown, would scorch the ends of the earth to ruin someones life so he could be “right” or get his way. frick that dude.

Here is the Mayo Clinic site for NPD. The anger in my experience is the big difference between basic narcissism and the full blown NPD disorder.
If you want to edit and add link to your OP, it is a good place to start and better understand what you are dealing with. Just keep in mind many NPD's can be charming and charismatic which draws people to them. See the real them and avoid this trap.

I think the term narcissist is way over used to be honest
sometimes it is just good old fashioned egotism and arrogance

my mother hits all 15 of those 10 traits listed - it is why I stopped talking to her for over a year now - she felt so slighted and disrespected by my wife and I pointing out the things that she was doing/saying to us, while she lived with us rent free, and got "hurt" by it and moved out, that she has not spoken with us in over a year - on Thanksgiving or Christmas, my dad's Birthday and the 1st year of his passing, and here we are on my 50th Birthday - and not a word.
my advise - state what you need to state, if they gaslight, manipulate, guilt trip or twist your words to make them look the victim - walk the frick away - your life will be better, and they will never change.

Wonderful people if you always agree to their thinking.
Tyrant when you go against them.

Let's be honest here. Is there a single person on a website like this that doesn't fit this trait?
I'm me just look at the petty crap we get into arguments about on here.

Narcissism is not a mental illness. It is a character deficiency.
I would argue it is the perfect example of Nature vs Nurture and I still do not have that answer after all these years. Knew two women early in my youth (sisters) and they could not have been more opposite despite growing up in the same house with the same parents. Reminds me of the "town drunk dilemma" from my youth.
The town drunk had two children. One became an alcoholic and the other became a tea totaler. After the parent drank themselves to death both children - now adults - were asked why they chose the life path they did. Oddly, they had the exact same response.
"Look at who raised me, what else could I have become".

I’ve been satisfied being a senior VP, exec. Never want anything more. The narcissism that exist above that in the corporate world is unbearable.

100% true
They will always be "the victim"
I chose to be a survivor instead

Ah. The foundational core of Stoic philosophy. "it’s not what happens to you, but how you react to it that matters".
For one of the two the phrase was an excuse. For the other, it was a reason.

Wow this post came at a time I'm dealing with this yet again. The ex wife is full blown narcissist and an emotional abuser on top of it. All my kids are adults now but I've successfully helped 2 of my kids navigate and mange the damage done by her. My youngest son talked to me this weekend and he's seriously struggling. I could use some prayers to help set him back on the right path.
Edit: One of the biggest traits I noticed is she will try to destroy another persons image if they go against her....even her own children.

More basic than that, I changed from my youth and survived.
One of my siblings did not, and it cost them their life.

You can choose to be the VICTIM
You can choose to be the SURVIVOR
I chose never to be the victim, and I am still standing when so many had so much more promise than I ever did, are now taking the dirt nap.

Narcissism isn't always obvious superiority. Some people with narcissistic traits appear insecure, anxious, suspicious, or perpetually on edge.
After many years of trying to figure out what was wrong with the narcissist in my life, I finally concluded that she was severely insecure and had an extremely warped sense of situational awareness. I've never met a person who felt so slighted by anyone and everyone. And once she felt victimized by them, they were dead to her. It. Was. Everybody.

GET OUT. I divorced one and my wife's ex-husband is a card carrying narcissist who checks every box and follows their playbook to a tee. It truly amazing me how they all have the exact same traits. My wife and I are happy now but her Ex tries to make her life miserable because they still "co-parent" a child together. The good news is most narcissists only want the appearance of good parent so he is mostly out of his son's life. He is a true loser in every sense and he knows it too. He is pissed his ex-wife married up and his son is happy and stable.

I wonder how many narcissists are also drug addicts/alcoholics as opposed to "normal" people?
