How did you date her long enough to buy her a ring and marry her long enough to nut in her?

If this is true, these traits don’t just show up overnight.

If you can’t tell what a troll is then that’s on you pal. I’m way too important and busy to explain it to you. You should apologize for wasting my precious time and thumb power.

Eta: but freal, the first half of my post was sarcasm. The part about broader human nature being narcissistic was not.

My father nails all but number 4 in addition to being suspicious and insecure, and it took me 35 years to realize it. It's why I don't talk with him anymore.

Would demanding an apology when wronged despite never willing to do it when they are wrong number 11 or should it be 7b?

Where are they on the spectrum?

If it is genetics, may be in their DNA

If it is environment, you will have to be the positive mentor

It gets filed under a general subset of “Rules for thee, not for me” that they ascribe to.

I've also noticed that narcissists have image issues and are always looking at plastic surgery as a means to correct "flaws"

Thank you for the input. Sarcasm is my weakness, to the amusement of my closest friends for decades. I can understand gravity waves when others can not. I still have no clue on sarcasm. It is why I struggle with trolling as it never makes sense to me to do it in the first place.

As a really old guy, when you fight you go knuckle junction in split seconds, nowadays it seems all drama and posturing. Don't even get me started on old "wrasslin" and what passes for "wrasslin" starting in the 1980's.

Top 10 traits of narcissism

1. Lack of accountability — Has difficulty admitting mistakes, accepts responsibility only reluctantly, or blames others for problems they caused.

2. Extreme defensiveness — Takes ordinary feedback or disagreement as a personal attack and reacts with anger, excuses, or counterattacks.

3. Sense of entitlement — Believes they deserve special treatment or that rules and expectations should apply differently to them.

4. Needs to be right — Treats disagreements as contests to win rather than opportunities to understand another person's perspective.

6. Blaming and shifting responsibility — Turns the issue back on the other person. For example, "I wouldn't have gotten angry if you hadn't provoked me."

8. Sensitivity to criticism or perceived disrespect — Reacts disproportionately to correction, rejection, embarrassment, or perceived slights.

9. Need for control — Tries to dictate how disagreements are discussed, when they are resolved, or what the other person is allowed to feel or say.

10. Exploitation or manipulation — Uses guilt, intimidation, pressure, or selective versions of events to get their way, sometimes with little regard for the consequences to others.

I made excuses for her nonstop. When times were good, they were really good. I found myself being alienated more and more from my family and friends in the last couple of years. She would even use the kids against me. I found myself saying “sorry” more and more for things I shouldn’t be sorry for, just to end the conflict. I started to understand that she thrived on that conflict and enjoyed the “WTF?” factor that she could get out of me. I have since gone to therapy and learned how to deal with narcissists. It all about limiting communication and when being forced to communicate, giving simple answers like “noted” or “acknowledged” that cannot be weaponized by her.

She has Down syndrome and is VERY high-functioning. She’s a daddy’s girl, and she is my world.

Good place to be in, does she have high math ability?

You are going to have to walk the tightrope of wanting to spoil her and being the bettor mentor for not spoiling her.

Basically, most women. I’m sick of the narrative that men are the primary narcissists. It’s just not true. Just as many or more women would be diagnosed if they got examined. But, hormones and stuff.

many of the traits of a narcissist seem to exist in people that you already have a reason to be unhappy with. people in unhappy marriages see the traits of things like narcissism and borderline and immediately transpose it onto their spouse. and it's true from one perspective, they probably do perceive their spouse as having all of those traits. but you have to look at their relationships outside of the marriage with friends and family etc to get a fuller view.

of course some people really ARE married to borderlines and narcissists, so that makes it even more difficult - am i actually married to one or am i making my perception fit the case? hard to say.

chances are pretty high though that people who accuse their spouse of being one of the cluser B personality disorders are wrong in their diagnosis.

and i live in this fog myself, and it's not easy to determine where reality lies.

"...wife's ex-husband is a card carrying narcissist who checks every box and follows their playbook to a tee. It truly amazing me how they all have the exact same traits"

It's like they read the same book or went to the same school.
