First time it was open. I made it but just barely. She had to keep telling me to be still. Second one was closed and was only in up to my shoulders. I had 2 Xanax but the only way I made it was having my wife -no pics - come in and hold my hand. It is the noise. No headphones exist that can remove that noise. If that makes me a pussy I will not disagree.

Yep, put the headphones on with some tunes and a fan blowing air down the tube, fell asleep in shortly after.

Imaging is not as good in the open. Have your doc give you a Xanax. Take it 45 minutes before your scan. Also find a place with the goggles and watch a movie.

Have had several. It has been a different experience at every different location.

Some places give you music to listen to, one had some sort of weird video w/ tranquil sights (this was about 20 years ago). Only times I've had issues was when I fell asleep, I instinctively turn my head, and my cervical one I had to fight moving due to pain.

Just because you had a bad experience with this one, does not mean you will have similar experiences at other places. But, because it's so fresh in your head you should make a request for an open MRI and let the technicians know about your recent experience. While they don't like to, they can start and stop several times to let you move around, adjust, and if need be to "walk it off" before finishing.

I've had a couple and I'm not a big fan, but I had some training to get thru it.

Survival school I got stuffed in box about the size of your under sink cabinet for a while, knees above my ears. Makes an MRI seem relaxing.

BRC Radiology has these mirrors in the helmet thing they put on you. instead of seeing the top of the tube inches from your face, you see the part of the room towards your feet.

all mri places should use this.

Open does not take good pictures. You will also be in there longer. We give anesthesia for patients every day for MRIs. The new machines aren't so tight and can hold up to a 550lb person. Still there are people every day that can't do it.

Are you claustrophobic?
I am but I am also very agile so I know I could totally slink down and get out of the hole at the bottom so I can tolerate it.
The noise cancelling headphone places are the best. I had 3 in 2021

My fishing buddy started OpenMRI in Houma. I had one scheduled and when I arrived they didn’t even have an OpenMRI machine. The tech told me it was always broken and they got rid of it.

I couldn’t handle the tube. They gave me Xanax and everything went fine.

A few weeks later my friend and I were fishing and I asked him why they don’t they fix their fricking OpenMRI machine.

He laughed and said “That machine is gone forever. It was too slow. The tube makes the cash register ring more often. It makes better pictures and a bunch more money. “.
