I had to do an MRI yesterday. Strapped me in, snapped some head shite on me, give me ear plugs and sent me in the tiny tube like coffin. I thought, I can handle this. Just close eyes and think of something else. Then the noise and banging shite started. Heart started pounding, started to sweat. I last 3 minutes of what was supposed to be a 45 minute scan. The complete mind frick it is. Squeezed that little ball thing, thought if they can't get me out of here in 2 seconds I will die, destroy this machine, or crap my shorts.

This has never happened to me before but tech said it is common and they have people who have to have benzos to do them.

Was completely defeated the rest of the day. I consider myself to be a strong man. Have gone through some hell in life but man, I felt like a baby and was pretty embarrassed to tell the tech I just can't do it.

Raymond Damadian. I will full blown kick your arse for creating that death chamber of hell.

Are you claustrophobic? I have to be very drugged to do an MRI.

You could have found a place that does an open MRI

Only did one on my knee, so I wasn't fully in the tube. It was relaxing for me. I had young kids at the time, so it was nice to sit still for a while with my eyes closed.

Perfectly normal.

Find an open air mri next time. And take a xanax. Good luck.

Typically the quality of these scans suck, but for some it’s all they can handle. Unless they go under some type of conscious sedation

I’ve had about 15. I once got stuck in the tube when a thunderstorm knocked the power out

I actually fell asleep, which is funny because I can't sleep on an airplane.

Yes, a couple. They aren't bad for me. Waterboarding on the other hand, I couldn't last past about 45 seconds when I was waterboarded.

I haven’t had one done in about 20 years so maybe things changed, but I don’t remember it been terribly frightening at all. Though my 16-year-old daughter had one a few months ago and she hasn’t mentioned anything about it.

Eta… mine was on my knee, so maybe I wasn’t fully in the tube? My daughters was for her back, so I assume she was. Curious to ask her about it when she gets home from school now

That's my next step. Had no clue about it. Was not offered it. I just assumed it was like a CT scan.

Open is the answer however if you can't find one there's another option. The MRI is multiple slices and they don't have to be done consecutively.

I had an MRI for a torn rotator cuff and had to hold my arm in an awkward and painful position. I couldn't make the 45 minutes. The radiologist told the tech (pissed them off) to do a pass and let me out of the machine to stretch.
