Lafayette has fantastic internet service, low crime, decent public schools, great food, cheap cost of living, etc. It’s a really great place to raise a family. If you’re young and single, it can get boring after a while, but it’s one of the best places in Louisiana to be married with 2.5 kids. In addition, it’s attractive for developers because there’s still a lot of available undeveloped land not far from the city center.

Obligatory: We’re full.

It’s still very tied to O&G, but tech seems to be surging. LHC group is still headquartered here as far as I know and they’re a massive healthcare operation. It’s a great place to live as far as Louisiana cities go. Live on the outskirts for sure. Broussard, Milton, Maurice, etc. Youngsville really is full and will probably be renamed DSLDville soon.

This couldnt have been any less true 20 years ago. Best looking women anywhere, and lots of them, mixed with an extremely energetic variety of nightlife.

Lafayette has always been underrated in this area

Still lots of good looking women, but there’s just not a ton of nightlife variety. Trust me, Lafayette’s bar scene is even more shallow than BR’s, and gets old even faster.

Like minded, law abiding citizens that are friendly with a great mixture of Cajun roots and people that value human life, which in turn lends itself to a non-woke police dept that doesn't take any shite once you get to the ULL area and further south into the vibrancy of the city. It's like a hard red line once you get past Evangeline Thwy or where Louisiana becomes Johnston.

I think the insta-lay apps have probably cut into bar scenes all over the country, no need to have game or go out, just tinder up and get some

777Tiger, you are mistaken about Louisiana cuisines. There are three main ones. The Southwest (Acadian culture) produced the unique Cajun cuisine. The New Orleans Southeast produced the unique Creole cuisine, and the Northern parts generally cook non-unique Southern food.

quote:

Lafayette, and Acadiana in general are responsible for the best food La has to offer,

This is personal preference. Half my family is Cajun cooking and half is Creole cooking. Plus we have Southern (oftentimes mislabeled Soul food) influences. All are delicious. But I would rank them Creole, Cajun, Southern. And all are superior to Yankee food.

quote:

Nola wasn't really known for that until they hosted the World's Fair, hell they even used to serve bawl crawfish chilled

Complete BS! I went to many crawfish, crab, and shrimp boils and ate hot boiled seafood before the World’s Fair. And yes we eat cold crawfish, crabs, and shrimp to this day. Do y’all throw your surplus boiled crawfish away?

quote:

it's what everyone outside of La thinks they are getting when they go to Nola, "Cajun" food

Yes outsiders are ignorant of the Cajun/Creole distinction, as perhaps are you. And the New Orleans area always adds and adapts other cuisines to its table. One can easily find Cajun, Italian, Vietnamese, etc in the Creole bastions.

Crawfish bisque, my favorite, is Creole. Crawfish etouffee, an extremely close second, is Cajun. I wouldn’t want to live without either!!!

Lafayette is awesome. It’s a little island in the middle of South LA. It’s one of the few places I’d consider moving to if I had to live back in LA. Arguably the best place in the whole state.

Favorable demographics. Plenty of restaurants and shopping. Close to BR for LSU games (don’t need to get a hotel). Public schools aren’t awful. You don’t have to do private school but there are some good private schools too.

Lafayette has good festivals and a cool downtown area. People are for the most part nice and friendly. Doesn’t feel like a large city by any means. Most of the city is made up of people from surrounding small prairie cajun towns. It is evident on the overall culture there. Most of the ghetto is confined to the north side and Opelousas. Crime is very low and it’s a safe place.
