Lafayette population has been on a steady rise lately.
Not sure why either.

A lot of young people moving in from out of state lately though.

There’s this made up hierarchy of Cajuns and if you’re a bayou Cajun, you’re looked down upon.

So I guess we can safely assume which category you fall in.

Honestly, I don't know if Lafayette is considered a food town or not but I've always been a bit disappointed. Never really found a go to place there.

Reds is honestly still pretty impressive. Not many places like it in terms of scale and amenities.

I'd move back to Lafayette in a heartbeat if I could, mostly because all of my family is that way. It's also a much better small city than Baton Rouge IMO.

The faux competition with New Orleans, if you’re not from Lafayette or the area - most people are snobby and have to tell you how much better they are than you, the price of living is not that great, it’s very cliquish and provincial, most people claim to be an expert in something but can barely read or write …

No one from Lafayette gives a shite about Nola

Exactly. No one I know gives two fiddler's fricks about New Orleans. Also, I was raised a "bayou" cajun and somehow was able to penetrate the uppity fence just fine.

Old Metairie Rd. and…. that’s it

I used to live right on the 17th Street Canal, about a mile north of Metarie Road but still south of I-10. I remember knowing all my neighbors and going to parades on Metairie Road for St. Patrick's Day and Mardi Gras. We'd walk up and down the levee. The public schools were excellent (Haynes and Metairie Academy). There were so many great places to eat and things to do. Those were some of the best days of my life.

I've been in Atlanta almost 10 years now, but I still question my decision to leave. I seldom go back so I don't really know what it's like there now.

This. If anything, I hear more New Orleans people bring up the subject between the two cities. Lafayette people are just glad New Orleans is far enough to not have to bring crime to their area.

You need no other reason than this IMO.

But I think that Lafayette itself is a nice town. It feels smaller than it is. A lot of people still know each other - like it's a functional community.

You don't see that bigger cities or their suburbs. You don't even see that in mid sized cities like Baton Rouge anymore.

As for the comparisons between Lafayette and Metry, I've lived in both areas. You know the main difference? When I turned it on to WWL for the nightly news, the top stories were always "how many got shot in the area today." When I turned on KATC, it was "what festival is happening this weekend." It's safe to say that I rather liked one over the other.

loved my time living in Lafayette, I could easily move back there, or other areas in Acadiana
