Anyone touting the women in Lafayette are probably married, like all the girls there after they turn 21 and get knocked up. They look great when they’re young and then age like milk after popping out a few bawbies.

I think you’re talking about cajun girls.

Yeah, that all sounds right. My memory doesn't extend prior to 1977 (born in 1974), but I do remember my dad showing me how to peel crawfish and I couldn't have been more than four or five.

Dude I don’t even live in Lafayette and that pisses me off. Metairie is an absolute shithole. It’s one of the most depressing suburbs in Louisiana. I’d live in Port Allen before Metairie.

Exactly. I suppose it’s better than living in New Orleans but has to be at least 100 times worse than Lafayette.

Lafayatte definitely seems like the best "city" in Louisiana.

Metairie is a super sized shithole. The Carny trains drop off all their undesirables in New Orleans and push their undesirables to Metairie. Teardown houses everywhere.

I have lived in both Lafayette and Metairie..

Have you really lived? Can’t see the dumpster fire from the dumpster.

Edit: Louisiana as a whole is a dumpster fire. Lafayette isn’t a booming metropolis with a ton to do if you’re single, but I couldn’t think of a better place to have a family.

So Dramatic!! I am so happy I got your 1 and only post.

Sure there are parts that are not the best, just like every city, but your just being dramatic.

I will take the charm, history, economy and vicinity to New Orleans and some of the best restaurants in the US over Youngsville, Lafayette or anywhere in Acadiana.

What part of metairie is charming? I’ve honestly never seen anything charming in metairie but I’d love to know where to look. I’m being serious. Please educate me.

The absurdity of a statement like that was worthy of my first post. Congrats.

Guilty. Very thankful she made the first move at a friends wedding years ago and never looked back. I enjoy Lafayette quite a bit. Nice house and 2 kids and there’s plenty for us to do. Coming from BR though, so any city with the slightest semblance of having its shite together would seem like utopia.

Lafayette is the perfect place to raise a family, and even the public school system is decent. Cost of living is also affordable for what you get. It's basically a small town mindset inside of a bigger city. Add in the natural Cajun culture, and it's a hit. I would say, though, that traffic can be an issue due to the fact that Lafayette sort of outgrew itself over the last 3 decades to where the road infrastructure couldn't catch up. Hopefully, there's some fixes to that in the future.

As for the comparisons between Lafayette and Metry, I've lived in both areas. You know the main difference? When I turned it on to WWL for the nightly news, the top stories were always "how many got shot in the area today." When I turned on KATC, it was "what festival is happening this weekend." It's safe to say that I rather liked one over the other.

The faux competition with New Orleans, if you’re not from Lafayette or the area - most people are snobby and have to tell you how much better they are than you, the price of living is not that great, it’s very cliquish and provincial, most people claim to be an expert in something but can barely read or write … that’s all I can think of off the top of my head. There’s this made up hierarchy of Cajuns and if you’re a bayou Cajun, you’re looked down upon.

Now, I do have to say some of the nicest people are from the surrounding areas like St. Martinville and Arnaudville, etc.- but Lafayette and the close suburbs - you can have that.
