True. Some of them are airport rentals from BTR or LFT.

Most of the Texas tags in Louisiana are Hispanic people working construction, o&g, or hospitality.

Lafayette is not a great as people from there say it is - there is crime and the schools are mediocre. The food is mediocre, too. I agree with Metairie being 10x better. my 2 shillings

Complete BS! I went to many crawfish, crab, and shrimp boils and ate hot boiled seafood before the World’s Fair. And yes we eat cold crawfish, crabs, and shrimp to this day. Do y’all throw your surplus boiled crawfish away?

There was a crawfish boom in New Orleans, but it was a few years prior to the World's Fair- more like 1978 or so.

Best “smothered Turkey” and “fried pork chops” in the state if not the world.

Lafayette is a fine town in which to live. If you’re happy with mediocrity it’s a great landing spot.

But it’s….not special. It’s just a place. There’s absolutely worse, but if living in Lafayette is an aspiration then you aim too low in life.

Anyone touting the women in Lafayette are probably married, like all the girls there after they turn 21 and get knocked up.

They look great when they’re young and then age like milk after popping out a few bawbies.

If you are raising a family, it's probably top 3 in the state. I've been in Lafayette for the past 10 years. Grew up in Nola, went to LSU and spent 3 years after college in BR. I loved both Nola and BR when I lived there, but I would never move back to those cities in their current state. Like other posters mentioned, Lafayette doesn't offer as many choices for dining or activities like Nola, but it's not a deal breaker. There's enough to keep my family of 6 occupied, though.

Lafayette people say…Lafayette is great. It’s got some good restaurants, smaller town feel. but infrastructure is not that great & traffic sucks. I’m always reminded of this when I49 ends in the ghetto and it takes way longer than it should to get the hell out of the city.

This reminds me of a thread a while back where someone asked what there was to do in Lafayette that didn’t involve drinking and no one could think of anything

Actually the crawfish boom occurred with the large scale commercial harvest of the Atchafalaya, later rice fields, refrigerator trucks, and the I-10. Before that, crawfish were caught and eaten locally. Most were amateur catch and cook with few professional commercial fisherman. My earliest memory of a crawfish boil in the New Orleans area dates to 1968 in Chalmette when my cousins caught about the equivalent of 3 sacks.
Now Cajun country experienced the boom first because the Atchafalaya consistently produced large amounts and the local market didn’t demand fast transport and refrigeration.

The boom hit New Orleans when the cheaper commercial harvest was shipped in and it started in the middle 70’s and were a Good Friday staple by the late 70s.

But trust me. Crawfish were known and eaten in the New Orleans area almost from the cities founding because the natives ate them for centuries.

Move to Metairie instead. It isn't New Orleans and will be 10x better than Lafayette.

But then you have to deal with the people from Metairie. Some of the most parochial people you’re ever going to meet. They don’t understand a world outside of GNO area , Disneyworld, and 30A.

Lafayette is only a 1/3 ghetto and that ghetto isn't too bad.
