During the War of 1812, the war that decided whether or not we remained free and independent of Britain, New England did not give enough support to the cause. It’s a big reason why they were able to destroy our capital. Many New Englanders wanted to go back to being a part of Britain and I t took a Southerner (Andrew Jackson) with some huge nuts to keep it all together.

Lee Greenwood should be first in line for the next senseless war we put ourselves in.

"And I'll gladly stand up, next you, and defend her still today..."

Cool. Here's you gun, soldier.

Ironically the Venn diagram of Confederate flag wavers and people who cry about kneeling for the US National anthem is very close to a singular circle.

You’re right, because those who are patriots can’t also honor their own ancestor’s history.

Traitorous history*

Y'all always leave the traitor part off to make it sound nicer.

Except the traitors were squashed so they're still traitors who failed.

As an american with part of my family being from Germany, I fly the Nazi flag proudly to honor the past

Heritage, not hate. True patriotism as well

They're patriotic - just have an allegiance to a different government.

The "patriots" were traitors. Whether they won or not is irrelevant.

Exactly whose freedom were the Hicks from the south fighting for?

The winning part is entirely relevant. What are you talking about?

A winner becomes a recognized nation like the US. The losers become just a pathetic group of hicks shouting "the south'll rise again!"

I understand the distinction and I get your point. I dont think they're mutually exclusive. My point is they all start out as traitors. What happens after that is another discussion. I'm not trying to argue pro or con on the civil war. I'd be hard pressed to pick a side on that.

So the state that kicked off the Civil War comes in at number eight. Interesting.
